GrahamK Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 Thank you for the information provided earlier regarding the start of flights to Hanoi. This was of great use to us and I will dteail how we have booked. In case you don’t know, from October 17th, Air Asia are operating flights from Bangkok to Hanoi. We have just booked online with them for November and I must say the transaction went smoothly and you can pay by credit card at no extra fee. As it’s a low cost airline so there are extras to add on to the first price. But here is what it’s cost us Weekday flight to Hanoi – 999 Baht Weekend Flight from Hanoi – 1,299 Baht Fuel Surcharge (For Both Legs) – 1,000 Baht Taxes (For Both Legs) – 300 Baht Total = 3,598 (Per Person) Now this is still really, really cheap compared to Thai and Vietnam Airlines. For us in the UK it has cost us roughly £49.30 each for the round trip!!! If you live in Bangkok, you could almost go for a long weekend at these prices. There was some blurb about the extras not including 7% tax, but if we have to pay this at the airport it should only be 91 Baht. Still making the flight very cheap. Of course we will have to pay departure tax as well. Hope this is of interest to you. Now I have to do loads of research on where to go what to see and how to get around in the 3 weeks we have there!! Any suggestions are welcomed
thaiflyer1 Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 Ive just used AirAsia ( yesterday )....went to Singapore from Bangkok and back 2143 baht (booked in July).......this included 375baht departure tax from Singapore (but not Bangkok)...........all went really smooth, flights left and arrived on time. Would use them again.
spacebass Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 Please let is know how you get on getting a visa.

Any suggestions are welcomed <{POST_SNAPBACK}> £50 quid round trip between Bangkok and Hanoi.....this is more like it and should be welcomed. Lots of good deals, hotels and bars in the good old Socialist republic and this is certainly one way of finally making that final last leg worthwhile as a new tourist venture. My regular flights between the 2 caps 10 plus years ago normally came out at around at @ $180 return and that was before the baht fell so 50 quid is... very good. Uncle Ho must be smiling If only they were in Star Alli......
GrahamK Posted September 28, 2005 Author Posted September 28, 2005 Please let is know how you get on getting a visa. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I must admit after getting the flights so cheap, the cost of a visa has come as a bit of a shock. Here in the UK it costs £38 +£5 postage = approx 3140 baht. This is almost as much as the flights!! To apply here i have downloaded the visa application form from the embassy and will post it off this weekend. If I have any problems, I'll let you know. One thing I should mention regardig Air Asia, is that they only allow 15kg free baggage allowance. Over that they charge 140 baht/kg. But it's still a cheap flight package.

I have used them 20+ times and only once have they been within 1hr of departure time.. Their website sez it all, 90% of flights within 2hrs of departure time
