Lite Beer
Chaiyasit, Wan to run for Pheu Thai By The Nation on Sunday. Pheu Thai Party yesterday unveiled General Chaiyasit Shinawatra, cousin of former premier Thaksin, as its MP candidate for Ratchaburi constituency 1. Four other candidates for the party in the western province are all local politicians: Pongsak Kitprasert, Sayan Changpanich, Wasan Tiengtrong and Amporn Penthamrongrat. In Bangkok, deputy spokesman Jirayu Huangsap introduced two new MP candidates for the capital: Wan Yoobamrung and Anuttama Amornwiwat. Wan is the son of veteran politician and former Pheu Thai MP Chalerm, while Anuttama is daughter of former Department of Special Investigation director-general and police chief Sombat. Wan said he decided to run in the election as the popularity for his father and the party in the constituency was good. Anuttama, a former lecturer at Thammasat and Chulalongkorn universities, said she wanted to apply her knowledge and experience to develop Thai education. -- The Nation 2011-04-
whybother
Wan said he decided to run in the election as the popularity for his father and the party in the constituency was good. Shouldn't he be worrying about his own popularity? If his father is popular, why doesn't his father run?

Buchholz
In Bangkok, deputy spokesman Jirayu Huangsap introduced two new MP candidates for the capital: Wan Yoobamrung and Anuttama Amornwiwat. Anuttuma is the niece of banned People Power Party MP and executive committee member and Samak's Justice Minister Sompong. Wan's history is longer than space permits. . Oberkommando
It's amazing to think that even with such characters, they have a chance of winning the election. Speaks volumes just how unpopular the Democrats have been in the North and North-East since the last Chuan administration.

Speaks volumes just how unpopular the Democrats have been in the North and North-East since the last Chuan administration. From the bravado of 'one million people' marches and 'guaranteed victory' to the sour reality that it might not happen and all before a single vote has been cast. Plus, without the thugs in charge of a street assault, one wonders what stunts Jatuporn and his crew are dreaming up. Maybe taking phone calls from Arisman for advice? Speaks volumes just how unpopular the Democrats have been in the North and North-East since the last Chuan administration. Nothing in the OP speaks anything about upcountry or (un)popular Dem's, only about candidates for the PTP. These candidates will be constituency candidates. If elected it speaks for the voters in those constituencies only. Mind you the way candidates are (self-)appointed speaks for the democratic aspects in the political party. Robby nz
Interesting in todays news: Pheu Thai Party to Separate from Red-shirt MovementThe Pheu Thai Party is set to hold a meeting today to find ways to separate the party's role from the red-shirt group. Deputy leader of the opposition Pheu Thai Party, Plodprasop Surusawadee disclosed that the party will meet today to discuss ways to separate the party's role in politics from the red-shirt group. Plodprasop has admitted to rumors that some of the party's executives have plans to resign as they want to prevent the party from being criticized during the election campaign, which might lead to the party's dissolution As for reports that the party's chairman Chavalit Yongchaiyudh is set to leave the party, Plodprasop said Chavalit should not be concerned about the situation. How do they think they could do that when a couple of their MP.s are red shirt leaders including the biggest mouth in the business for both PT and the reds? There are also the other red leaders who are reputed to be after a place on the PT party list. Then there is the big boss himself who 'phones in' to the red rallies and will also decide who the PT party PM candidate will be and who will formulate the PT policies. Heck you couldnt prise them apart with a crowbar.

Buchholz
Candidates banned from alluding to monarchy BANGKOK, 18 April 2011 (NNT) – The Election Commission (EC) has drafted a strict regulation banning politicians and electoral candidates from alluding to the monarchy, neither positively nor negatively, in their election speeches. Election Commissioner Prapan Naikowit elaborated that the regulation, which will be effective after House dissolution, will ban electoral candidates from alluding to the monarchy in all circumstances, including speaking to protect the monarchy. Violators will be considered as breaching electoral regulations and might be given yellow or red cards depending on the gravity of the offence. Yellow card refers to warnings and re-elections must be held in the constituency while red card refers to political rights suspension for violators. In addition, violators might face criminal charges of lèse majesté while political parties which the violators belong to, might be faced with dissolution similar to buying votes under Section 237 of the 2007 Constitution. Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva earlier assigned the Secretariat of the Cabinet to ask the EC to issue electoral regulations to prevent electoral candidates from alluding to the monarchy or involving the monarchy in national politics. Mr Prapan said actually the EC has already drafted the regulation before being ordered by the prime minister since the EC had received many complaints on the issue during previous elections. He expected that the draft legislation would be considered within this month and be put into effect before the next general election. -- NNT 2011-04-

animatic
Violators will be considered as breaching electoral regulations and might be given yellow or red cards depending on the gravity of the offence. They should give violators yellow or red shirts instead I think many have them already. And great numbers have been thrown in the back of the closet lately. Well losing Chavalit, and like Sanoh and others, Thaksin still can count on his cousin to keep running And asking donors to Payup and Chaiyasit will certainly chase it till the bitter end.
