Ed Visa

Featured Replies

Hi folks

I'm thinking of aplying for a 1 year education visa.

I've researched the process, costs, etc.

Just one question; I realise that I don't have to leave the country to make the 90 day visa extensions but if i do wish to leave the country (I have family in Malaysia and friends in Hong Kong that I visit quite regularly) can i do so without corrupting the 90 days extension?

To clarify, for example if I flew to Malaysia for 3 days two weeks after obtaining my 90 day extension at a local office in Thailand, would I have to pay for another extension as I re-entered the country or would my 90 day extension allow me to fly out and into Thailand within that 90 day period at no extra charge?

I hope this question makes sense!

Any advice much appreciated.

I think you might need to buy a 1,000 baht reentry permit each time you want to leave and reenter.

If your education is "S" as in single entry then you would not be able to leave and reenter with the visa alone.

If on the other hand you applied for a Multi entry ED visa which is not available in nearby SEA asia consulates. Generally the multi entries are only issued in western countries.

You could get a multi entry visa for some non language schools. A multi entry ED visa would allow unlimited entries until the entry expiration date of usually 1 year. For the language visa route I think they only issue SIngles even from western countries.

That is my understanding but a bit off the cuff.

There are two items here - visa and extension of stay. Normal visa issue for language school is single entry non immigrant ED valid for one 90 day stay. And the normal extension of stay is in 90 day blocks. If you want to leave and return on that entry or subsequent 90 day extensions of stay you must obtain a re-entry permit at 1,000 baht prior to leaving to use as your new entry permission (will get the same permitted to stay stamp as your currently have). All extensions of stay require a re-entry permit to maintain that extension when traveling outside of Thailand.

A one year multi entry non immigrant ED visa is not normally issued in the local area but would allow unlimited entry exit but no stay could be longer than 90 days without an exit.
