Red-shirt leaders blow whistle on coup

By The Nation

Red-shirt leaders on Thursday stepped out to speak in unison, voicing suspicion about a military intervention to seize power after the upcoming House dissolution.

Pheu Thai MP Jatuporn Promphan said Army Chief of Staff General Dapong Rattanasuwan should explain why he urgenly summoned three key commanders to meet him at his residence on Wednesday's night.

The three commanders were from the First, Second and Ninth Divisions based in Bangkok, Prachin Buri and Kanchanaburi respectively. All three divisions were involved in the 2006 coup.

Red-shirt leader Natthawut Saikua said he suspected the Army was plotting a coup under the disguise of ensuring preparedness to uphold the monarchy.

Natthawut claimed the mock exercise on preparedness was actually a checking campaign to rally the subordinates before staging the power seizure.

He said under the coup plotters would work in three steps - trying to revoke the bail of red-shirt leaders, ensuring the House dissolution in the first week of May and seizing power of the caretaker government.

The coup plot was designed to foil the poll because of the top brass' concern about the Pheu Thai election victory, he said.

He went out to assert that the soldiers were prepared to advance forward the coup if the judiciary failed to approve the bail cancellation.

He said the red shirts would fight against any attempts at power seizure. Red-shirt leader Thida Thawornseth flew off to Malaysia to meet with Thaksin Shinawatra's lawyer Robert Amsterdam to discuss anti-coup strategy, he said.

Party and movement in jeopardy? Red shirt 101 - start another baseless coup rumour.

So, let me get this right.

Stage 1 is revoking the leaders bail (as if they don't have a proven yellow streak when it comes to facing the army)

So if bail is revoked, it must be true.

You don't need xray vision to see through this nonsense.

I can't get Thai TV, not that there is anything worth watching but isn't that the first thing to get pulled?

Is there a coup now or is it just my overactive imagination and poor cable reception?

Satellite TV truevisions been off here( gulf islands) for the last hour. Wonder if you are right?

Let's hope not but I'm in the north and no TV nationwide (??) would be a bit too helpful to the rumour mill, wouldn't it?

It used to be popular, back in the UK in the old days, to report (through the Letters-Page of the respected London Times newspaper) the hearing of the first cuckoo in Spring.

Here in Thailand the red-shirt leaders have been reporting rumours of hearing of 'coup-koos' for what feels like years, but is probably only several months, I believe this is an attempted rallying-cry to their dispirited former-supporters, who are increasingly realising that PTP will not be gaining a tidal-wave of support at the forthcoming election, to carry them into power & their 'Distant-Leader' to return home and lead them into Nirvana. :o

These claims are being made increasingly-often and increasingly-desperately, as the prospect of the Promised-Landing (at Swampy) recedes, but reality remains. The political-rats are bailing-out of the party, Thaksin is desperately back-peddling on his decision to bring leading Red-Shirts onto the party-list of prospective-MPs, and the party is still leaderless.

So Jatuporn continues to try to appear leadership-potential, Thaksin dithers between family-members or his deserting loyalists, and the 'coup-koo' call is repeated, in an attempt to ward-off disaster. B)

Attempting to stave off defections caused by their increasing number and severity of Lese Majesty charges, they are trying to change the message back to accusation against the army, and not accusation against themselves. The desperation in the Red camp and the increased fear of the red camp is palpable in the air. No doubt Thaksin feels his tendrils of control a jitter...

So what is the truth. Most likely that PTP is in trouble as the pressure mounts coming into a REAL election, the old guard dinosaurs are not buying into the new lions roars, because the young ones seem to bee eating their own, not just nipping at the heels of the current powers that be. And those with talent and ambitions are being stiffled and put down the more successful they are by the control freak attitude of Thaksin. AAnd as is typical Thaksin, his decision making under pressure is spotty at best, and mistakenly errant more often.

So we witness Thaksin watching his deserting former loyalists,

who turn out to preffer being loyal royalists in their old age.

Staying with what they know and love, in spite of a possible payday.

If that payday didn't come to bear fruit, and they had turned their backs on king and country, it would be a long and lonely winter of their dotage in discontent.

To quote the english curse attributed to the Chinese.

'May you live in interesting times.'

Oh we do so we do..

Well, it would be strange for the army to stage a coup now, with dissent in the PT ranks and no clear signs of a PT election victory. However, the leaders of Thailand's military have proven repeatedly that they are none to bright!

Hopefully it is just satellite problems.

From the OP:

The lady wants to be prepared and checks with well-known 'anti-coup strategy' consultant Robert A. Check his website for a full report:

Does this mean PM Abhisit has no choice but to continue governing?

A billion man march from Roi Et to Khon Kaen is expected to happen on Saturday followed by a 3-month sit-in in front of 7-11 on the outskirts of Nakhon Nowhere from Monday onwards. Geordie Exiles Happy Birthday Party leader Habisat Wedgiepants has fled the country in fear and the country is now in the safe hands of army general Khaophat Jaan Piset.

God be with you all.

Maybe ther army should mount a coup and eradicate the red shirt leaders - the country would certainly be better for it.

What an assenine comment! Why is that when farangs from countries with strong and mature democratic traditions comment on politics in Thailand, they are amongst the first to call for this politician or that political group to be banned, jailed or exiled? Then they complain about double standards in Thailand!

The red shirt leaders know what the Army is doing. A majority of the enlisted are red shirts, telegraphing their every move.

This is a dilemma for Army leaders. Will the soldiers turn on them?

It's time yellows need to face reality. They are now a minority, ( a rich and powerful minority)

They can't win elections and must stop using the Army and Courts to get their way every time they lose.

How many coups in recent history? 20?

Let's get real yellow shirts. The party is over.

But not nearly as exciting as hysterically blurting out, "The Army has taken over Bangkok!!!"

Source beyond your own speculation please?

And back to the drawing board to explain, yet again, that because your anti-red doesn't therefore mean that you support yellow.
