RAMADI, IRAQ (BNO NEWS) -- Three police officers on Friday were killed and three more injured due to a bomb explosion in central Iraq, Aswat al-Iraq news agency reported.

An improvised explosive device (IED) was detonated in Ramadi. The attack targeted a police vehicle that was patrolling along al-Mustawdaa Street. The three wounded law agents were transported to a nearby hospital.

Ramadi is located in Anbar province which covers the western desert area of Iraq. Violence in Anbar escalated after tribal chiefs rose up against extremists in September 2006.

On April 4, two explosions took place within minutes near a school in Ramadi. As a result, two police officers were killed and ten more people injured, including six law agents and four civilians.

Bomb attacks continue in central Iraq, mainly targeting security forces but most of them resulting in civilian deaths. On Tuesday, two civilians were killed in two separate bomb attacks in the Iraqi capital city.

In southern Baghdad, a sticky bomb was attached to a civilian car. The explosive detonated as the car was travelling through the city's streets. The driver was killed and a passing civilian was injured. The explosion also caused material damage.

Moments later, an improvised explosive device (IED) was stuck to a civilian car in West Baghdad's Four-Streets Square. The driver of the vehicle was killed and three civilians were injured.

On Monday, an IED killed three people and injured at least 11 more. The explosion took place in Jisr-Diala district, southern Baghdad. The attack also caused damage to a vehicle.
