Phil Conners
Saw this one in our village last night. About 2ft long. Was very aggressive and eventually dispatched by our security. Security said that it was poisonous, but not too bad as it did not have red spots on the belly. From what I've been able to find on the Internet it looks like a pit viper? Phil Conners
Thank's, thats what I thought. In fact it was also shaking it's tail just like a rattlesnake. Where is your village? Looks like a Malayan Pit Viper to me. Danger Danger Danger. East Pattaya. It seems it's a fairly common snake all over Thailand and Malaysia. What about the "red spots on the belly" the security was talking about, is that a special kind or just local hearsay?

steffi
Well I've never seen any encounter with one of these in Bangkok. It would change my view entirely if these are found in Bangkok. steffi
Well Malayan Pit Vipers are known for a lot of deaths and their extremely toxic venom that destroys tissue and bone and you can bet that a big one will envenomate in deep tissue. yup, looks like a pit viper to me! I've seen a few of them before.
