School Registration Fees

Featured Replies

Im more then likely moving to Thailand in September and ive been looking at the extortionate prices of the schools which i'll be having to part with for my lovely daughter.

However ive noticed at the better schools such as Pattana ISB etc... they charge about 250,000 baht registration fee, which seems ludicrous to me, (ive not heard of this in England the Mecca of private schooling!)

Now this may sound like a silly question but as its Thailand and i dont like parting with money if i dont have to i'll ask anyway, have any of you got your kid into one of these expensive schools and not paid this rip off fee, the annual fee of 20,000 baht on top of the 629,000 Baht per annum tuition fees is also extracting the Michael.

I know it sounds tight as i should throw money away without questioning it but 250,000 Baht in my mind is a hell of a lot of money to part with for some trumped up fee.

I think this topic will do better here in the family and children forum. ;)

A bit pricey for school registration. Even in hiso circles......I'd be wondering what real value and worth would be for a quarter-of-a-million Baht education. OTT.....

I wish the fees were 1/4 of a million, but thats just for the registration fee, tuition fees are at 60% greater then the UK, but its these rip off fees that i dont like, i bet the school canteen has ++ service charge.

And you can bet that there will be even more pluses on those figures (trips, meals etc)...certainly out of my league financially, how do they justify it?..well they must have customers that are both able and willing to pay those sums

I only have one daughter and dont plan on anymore kids, i work in the oil game but get my hands dirty thus i can just afford it but obviously i'll be going without the big house and car and will work more then i wish, hence i look after the pennies which is why im wondering if such fees are negotiable or if they get wavered, im a million miles away from being rich!

The many civil servants working in Embassies must get their kids fees funded by the taxpayer which may be why they dont have to care, but surely the multinationals cant be too happy paying an extra 250k for a few kids thatll only be at a school in BKK for a few years.
