Visa Run To Tachilek

Featured Replies

Is it possible to go to Tachilek and get a 15 day visa on returning to Mai Sai? Is the cost still 500B?

Not sure about the cost (believe still is 500 but not sure), but it is possible to do a border run there.

Hi,

Exit Thailand via Mae Sai immigration - walk over the bridge to Tachilek immigration - pay 500 baht to immigration officer and obtain entry/exit stamps - walk back over the bridge to Mae Sai immigration - obtain new 15 day entry stamp to Thailand. $10 USD is a payment option as well as the 500 baht - but I have seen a few refusals by the police in accepting the $10 USD (probably the poor exchange rate) !

For the 15 day entry stamp you could be asked to show 10,000 baht before stamp is given (this is very rarely enforced) but I always carry the money anyway. It is 20,000 baht for 60 day tourist/90 day non o entry stamp.

The reason I mention this is that there is a notice when you come to re-enter Thailand stating that the money should be shown !

Don't forget - the shopping at Tachilek market is an option if you are not in a hurry - some amazing bargains to be had there.

Hope this helps you.

I go to Mae Sai every 90 days. In spite of some reports I have not yet had them refuse to accept $10 USD instead of 500 baht.

The US money needs to be new bill with no tears or issues. Since 10 usd is only 300 baht it is obviously a better deal. Frankly I am surprised that they don't demand it in baht. Just hand the guy a nice crispy 10 bill and smile. So far no problems but of course could change at any time.
