Mosque bomb kills 4 in central Pakistan

PESHAWAR, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- An explosive device blasted a mosque in the central region of Pakistan, killing 4 people and injuring several others, officials said Monday.

The explosion occurred at a mosque in Charsadda, Pakistan, which is located in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The improvised explosive device (IED) detonated in the limits of Umerzai Police station, Pakistan's Express Tribune reported, adding that the wall of the police station was severely damaged.

Emergency teams transported the injured to a local hospital, as local authorities cordoned off the area to begin conducting investigations into the incident.

On Sunday evening, U.S. President Barack Obama made a historic announcement when he confirmed the death of al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden during a U.S. operation in Pakistan last week. Since the announcement, Pakistani authorities have increased security measures.

Last month, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman's convoy was attacked in the same area in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
