Hi,

After lots of help from you guys i am just satarting out my girlfriends tourist visa application with her but just have a few queries.

1. We were going to apply for 6 month visa and plan on being in the uk for 5 months. Would the eco think this is too long for 1st time tourist visa ?

2. is it ok for my mother to sponsor my girlfriend. she can provide a sponsorship letter, 6 months bank statements, details of savings, pay slips, council tax bill, house deeds letter of invitation ect.

3. if it is ok for her to be a sponsor would i still have to provide my bank/financial documents aswell ?

4. i have been living with my gf in thailand for nearly a year which i can prove no probs. if i provide emails from the 2 times i went back to uk for work can i just print off the email headers with dates or do they want to see the whole email.

just tryiong to be thorough

once again thanks guys for sharing your wealth of info. it does make things a lot easier.

1) Depends on the reason for the visit, her situation in Thailand (is she working? Most Thai employers only give 2 weeks holiday per year), available funds and cost of trip etc.

2) The sponsor, if there is one, is the person supporting the application; in other words the person the visitor is traveling with or to join. That is you.

It is, of course, ok for your mother to provide accommodation and contribute toward some, or even all, of the cost. She should provide evidence of her ability to offer the accommodation, such as a mortgage statement if she owns or a landlord's letter if she rents, and a letter of invitation describing the property and who else lives there to show that there will be at least one room for the use of your girlfriend; although she can share with you or another female. If contributing toward the cost, then she should also say why she is doing so and provide evidence of her ability to do so; 3 to 6 months bank statements.

3) You only need to provide financial evidence if you are also contributing to the cost of the visit; ditto for your girlfriend.

4) Yes, the headers are fine, they don't need to see the contents.

You should also provide evidence of the two of you living together as well as your status in Thailand; i.e. a copy of your visa or whatever.

Hi again,

basically i have been living in thailand with her for the last year apart from returning to work in the uk for the odd few weeks when necessary.

i have to return over the summer to work and i would like her to come with me. it would mean her quitting her job and finding another one when we return. she also owns land and has deeds etc to prove.

do you think this would be ok ?

thanks again

Owning land will help, and even if there is no 'concrete' reason to return, many people have obtained a UK visit visa based upon the strength of their relationship with their sponsor. If the ECO believes the relationship to be genuine then they will also believe that the applicant would not want to jeopardies future applications, such as settlement, by overstaying or otherwise breaching the conditions of a visit visa.

Explain fully your circumstances in Thailand and your reasons for returning to the UK at his time as well as her reasons for accompanying you. Include your plans for the future together.
