I was warned about this around 1030pm tonight and its turned out to be true. (am i getting warned before the TPV's?)

(copied from another forum, story by PCN)

Was on Walking Street tonite and saw a convoy of Police totalling over 100 officers arrive from Bangkok. They were in uniform and appeared to be from the narcotics section. They were also equiped with riot shields.....<deleted>!!

Lucifers was the target..surprising really considering every other raid on Lucifers really hasn't come up with anything. Anyway...they charged the disco as if they were expecting a war. They proceeded to urine test everyone and once again came up with nothing. This time they were using strange looking strips which were placed on people's necks. Not sure what that was about.  Both my journalists were there andI can't wait to find out what was really going on tomorrow. I will post the story in the Latest News Section tomorrow. I was told that they are in town for the next three days so as a precaution make sure you have your passport handy if you are in town and tell any thai's with you to carry their ID's with them.

Wierd night indeed but luckily its not my kind o

Surprising as they never come up with anything? :o:D

Dave - any idea on what the owner of Lucifer's relationship with the police/tpv is like? :D

Not sure, I know one of the owners.

(and a few stories) :D:o

Well that explains all... :D

But I have to be honest from what I know and that is that if there are any big raids going on then the TPV's are not informed or included really. BKK, Chonburi & Banglamung police don't really use them.

:D

Not surprising when you think about!! I tend to think owner(s) must have pissed someone off - hence the repeat raids. :D

I personally do not know anyone who goes to Tonys'. Lucifers' is an alright place, I don't see what all the fuss is about. They should have more places like it. The Devil is a friend of mine. :o

Has he sold his bike yet?

I was pleased with thephone call as the wife always goes to Lucifers and I don't want her caught up in the chaos. :o

I hear that there were up to 100 Bangkok cops involved in the raid and some carrying riot shields.

They were also using a new method (New to me) of drug testing by sticking a plaster type strip on the neck.

Apparently no drugs found again!

Well I think this is conclusive evidence that Toxic has finally eradicated drugs from the kingdom once and for all. :o

Hoorah , buy the man a new plane :D

True, It was a direct hit on Lucifers and the gear was worn because of all the fighting and glass smashing on the previous raids. :o

Dave,

I was being facetious and suggesting Tony had paid for Lucifer's to be raided.

Correct me if I am wrong but Lucifer's is not farang owned. Its fronted by a German guy and I think a French but the money behind it is Hi So and from people I would expect to be untouchable.

Something murky going on with the Thais which as usual we are likely never to hear the details of or probably understand even if we did. I suspect the fact that police were drafted in from Bangkok is significant as the local rossers would want some deniability but as I say murky Thai stuff.

I think the thai partner side of it is related (or part) of the owners of Hollywood.

The german and swiss guy (swiss guy i know) are financial partners i believe. :o

Lucifer’s Discotheque raided by Regional anti-drugs Police.

Acting on orders from Police Colonel Tanapon, the Deputy Commander of Special Operations for Region 2, a raid was conducted on the Lucifer’s Discotheque on Walking Street on Wednesday Night. In a show of force, over 60 uniformed drug suppression Police were brought into Walking Street by bus and deployed inside the club. We spotted riot shields which were brought in by a separate police car, so they were clearly prepared for all eventualities. Both foreign and Thai patrons were checked for ID and drug usage through urine tests and a new test which samples sweat rather than urine.

This disco has been targeted on a number of occasions and in each case licenses have been found to be in order and only small amounts of patrons had tested positive for drugs. This raid produced the same results. A total of 5 Thai females failed a drugs test and were subsequently arrested. We are unsure if Lucifer’s will be held responsible for the 5 patrons and the case is now in the hands of the Governor of Chonburi who will decide if the evening’s events warrant a temporary or permanent closure of the venue. As a precaution we suggest that you carry your passport at all times for the next few days as we understand that more raids of entertainment venues are expected.

Eventhough I've never set foot in Lucifers, I've got this nagging incredible uncomfortable feeling about this whole issue...

As a rule I don't carry my passport when I'm out and about getting pissed.

I used to do this until I once lost my passport and ended up having a 35,000 Baht + assorted costs roundtrip to my homecountry to get a new passport (I'm a Belgian national, the Belgian Embassy does not give out passports, only to people who completely gave up Belgian residency, and at that time I still had an address back home!).

Not to mention immigration simply refusing to re-enter(re-stamp) my multiple non-o immigrant visa. They only wanted to enter the date which my last entry (accidentily the first entry on my non-o multiple) gave me...

So I ended up doing one more trip back home to get a new multiple entry non-o!

Total cost of that lost passport came close to 100,000 Baht :o

Granted, when I got asked my passport after a minor car accident recently, they happily accepted the color copy's of all relevant pages I carry arround.

However I'm not sure they will accept this when they are in the "let's <deleted> some of these extremely annoying Farangs" mode when raiding these nightspots...

On a side note, the Thonglor Police station asked (ordered) all Soi Cowboy Bars to put up a sign at their doors to inform all customers (Farangs) that they should have their original passport on their person...

Failure from any Farang customer to do so will result in the establishment where he happens to be to be fined 50,000 Baht!

What the F***

If the police wants to go out and check on foreigners it is their good right! They probably should do it more often seeing some of these shady characters hanging around!...

However I don't see the point in making bars assemble these Foreigners and then holding these bars responsible if there are Foreigners not having their passports on them.

It is simply not the job, nor responsibility of any bar/restaurant/pub/disco to assemble customers with their passports so its just easy for the boys in uniform to do a check-up.

It's just a to easy way out to check a 500+ person group of foreigners at the expense of the business owner, including holding that business owner responsible if just one customer does not hold his passport, or is under the influence of whatever chemical!

In Thailand like most of the world, you usually find the ulterior motives if you "follow the money".

The reason behind the repeated and largely unfruitful raids on Lucifer's could be a bit of political showboating I suppose; show the falang we mean business or demonstrate we are looking out for the social well-being of Thai citizens.

But I'm inclined to believe it's one of two things:

1) Someone is being well paid to harrass this business, or

2) Someone is NOT GETTING PAID and that is why they are being subjected to the raids.

Cetainly seems like someone has a burr under their saddle about this place!! :o

Well I agree with you - Thai(s) far outweigh the number of farangs in Lucifers by a very large margin. I think in this case they are out to get the mgt of Lucifers more than a few odd farang.

As I post before, this crazy country is quickly destroying it's tourism very quickly. Without tourists money, all Thais have to eat dirts. Most of all my firends who regularly long stay in Thailand all left.

Now its hard for us to enjoy a fun night without fearing police raids, piss tests, ordered to piss in the cup in front of others in the dance hall, being held up in clubs for hours, losing passports, get hasseled in the night spots or even on the streets for no ID and taken to police station,(actually happened last year to a German friend who was just walking late at night in Siam Sqare and taken to police station for all night), get hasseled and stopped by police for driving without any violation, very high crime rates recent years, hassel to get long term visa, hassel to make visa run, unreasonable rise in all tourist venues, ect ect, its becoming a big hassel to enjoy Thailand now, I am thinking of leaving to Brasil as well if I do not have my newly wed Thai wife here.

These police and government officials are in no interest to protect the nation's only reliable source of economy and image, only try to profit and pocket in more money by doing all the unthinkables, by harrassment, blackmailing, extortions.

A lot of Thai long stay regulars are flowing to Spain, Brasil, Malaysia, Mexico, ect

It won't be long that most long stayers leave this crazy dumb ass country.
