The closest one I can think of is "หาเหาใส่หัว" put lice on your head (in your hair)

How about....'sao-sai-hai-gaa-gin' means ' pulling your gut to feed the crow' .

I think it means "looking for lice to put on your head" (looking for trouble) similar gist, and it is as close as I can come too ..... I'll ask when I go into the office later if there is something more appropos/exact.

Not necessarily looking for trouble, but creating trouble for yourself unecessarily. For example, you may try to help someone out with something but you or others may see that by doing so you will create some kind of trouble/bother/extra work etc. for yourself. The third party, or indeed maybe yourself, would then say that you are หาเหาใส่หัวตัวเอง (looking for lice to put on your own head). This is very different to opening a can of worms for which I can't think of a Thai version off hand.

I racked my brain, and came up empty on this one so I asked some colleagues. The nearest they could get to open up a can of worms was ฟื้นฝอยหาตะเข็บ. I had never heard this before, but reading the definition, it would seem to fit in certain instances.
