As anybody reading this forum must have noticed repeatedly that you can meet most expats at Bo's Place (try otherwise the airport, the Big C or the Sriburin or Overbrook Hospital.... ).

But Chiang Rai has some satellite expat places as well. 'Hamburger 1' was mentioned before, the place where foreigners living in the Ban Du area use to meet each other and where expats from all over town get bread and other remarcable foodstuff like Pumpernickel and Rolmops.

Another place, with a completely different character, is situated next to the temple in Ban Hong Or, not far from the new prison. It is a kind of village market-shop, selling everything from garlick, toothpaste, nam pla to a lousy noodle soup. And (AND:) beer Chang and beer Leo for about twenty Baht a can.

The place is frequented not only by the local Thai residents and thousands of flies but also by a select little group of local expat residents and their friends from elsewhere. The ceiling is perfectly done, just (already four years) waiting for the paintwork. Also the toilet shows great perspectives as one can already imagine how nice it would look if it would have been finished.

The Australians set the tone, seconded by British and Dutch reserves.

It is a very quite place, the karaoke machine is almost falling apart, but the conversation never stops.

It is the kind of place where you go for a package of cigarettes (non-smokers of course for something else), meet a friend, decide to have just one can of beer and leave three hours later after a multiple number of it.

Great atmosphere and great guys (mates)!

Do they have Chang, Leo and a lot of flies as well?

Must be homey in a way then for the lads here.

The 'Queensland', hm, doesn't sound bad. Finally the place might get a name...
