I am using 3BB premier 4 MB an older package not the 5MB. i am happy with the 4 mb I tend to get most of the speed I am paying for but I do not think it is worth 500 THB just to go up 1 Mb. I watch a lot of streaming vidio through my roku streamer and download stuff and watch on my popcorn hour. If you use 3BB how are your speeds to the USA? can you watching streaming video? HD stuff? do you get good downloads with Tornets? if you could post your outcomes that would be great. on http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ San Francisco server I just did a speed test and got 4.02 MB here is my modem status it is raining now so it may affect it the 16 MB package is about the same price I am paying for the package I am now, just I know that in Thailand it may say 16 MB but to the USA it could be much less.

the noise seems a bit high

I'm in a similar situation as the OP. I have a Premier 3Mb/1Mb package for B1100/month, but am really, really tempted to switch to non-Premier 6Mb or 9Mb for less money. I download several US TV shows via torrents, and uTorrent usually shows download speed of almost the full 3Mbps. When my current six month prepaid package is finished, I think I will try a 6Mb or 9Mb package.

I have heard several say that the 6 MB is not so good, that is why I was looking at the higher plans. I will get up to 460 download while using vuse. wish is over my 4 MB. I read on an older topic that someone switched from 5 MB premier to the 16 MB and he said it was faster. We could always switch back just that my plan is an older plan like yours 4 MB so if I picked the 16 MB plan and did not like it I would have to go with the 5 MB plan at 500 THB more. ONe posters said if it is not broke do not fix it, I feel that also, just wanted to get some input on others that have switched who use their internet for ore ten browsing. I have also hears that o the lower plans 3BB will limit the torrent download speeds. I am not sure on hte higher plans and that is the type of info I was looking for.

No it isn't.

The higher the noise margin, the better. However, SNR can be almost anything as long as it's "stable". A high, but wildly fluctuating SNR is no good and usually indicates a line problem.

As for Line Attenuation, lower = better.

I'll be glad to swap my 8M/1M True connection for your 3M. What good is all that extra speed if you can't fully utilize it half the time? To me, reliability is everything. Hell, I'll even settle for 2M connection if that means I can download torrents at full speed and enjoy uninterrupted web browsing 24/7 (like I had with my previous ISP).

Like I said, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it..."

You'll find mixed results from members here. Distance to the switch, contention ratios, density of subscribers in your area, etc. The premiere is supposed to have guaranteed lower contention ratios. I recently had 8Mbps 3BB service installed when I saw new lines being run in the moo bahn for 3BB. I get pretty consistently 750kB/s (~7Mbps) torrent download rates.

was the8 MB on the indy package or whatever they cal it now? and how long ago? just a few months things can change, just over 1 year ago my premier was so bad I almost canclled it butfor at least one year it has been great, so thught 16 MB would improve things even better. I guess I just have to test it to find out

Just took a look at the 3BB site and their packages do change quite fast. Now they have 6, 9, 12, 16 and 20 but no 8. Mine was installed about 3 months ago and the quality is equal to when it was first installed. Their site is a bit confusing as the first link below shows only 1 Premier offering at 5Mb and the above 5 no special name to them.

However the 2nd link shows several Premiere and Indy packages. Mine was based on the first link which doesn't refer to it as Indy.

The first link is listed as "promotions". Odd really, as the prices listed are higher than the regular prices in the second link. TiT I guess

FWIW, I changed a few months ago from a Premier 3M/1M that I've had for years, to a Standard 8M/1M. The price went down from around 1250 to around 900 baht and the speed is most of the time what it says on the package for Torrents and similar type downloads that split the download up into multiple threads. It still seems that each individual download stream is limited to 1M-2M though. The speed is certainly always as good as it was with the Premier subscription.

Out of curiosity I just ran a quick test of a single stream download of a video file and was getting 753kB/s transfer speed the full time. But this was an HTTP file transfer and not a torrent. Luck of the draw most likely and a quiet moo bahn. ;)

Whatever you decide make sure you plan the change correctly

If you are on the "year" contract then you will have to pay 1,000 THB for the downgrade and make the request prior to the date your month ends or they will make you pay the downgrade fee immediately and charge you the full price for the remaining month and then downgrade you

I made the request on the first day of the billing cycle and they wanted me pay for the whole month at the higher rate before they would downgrade me

I think that second link is a year or so out of date, and they just forgot to delete it. Those 3Mb and 4Mb Premier plans have been discontinued for some time, other that folks already having them got to keep them. The 6, 9, 12, 16 and 20Mb plans are what I was offered in the local (Hua Hin) 3BB office.

I hand't realized that if I were to switch from my grandfathered 3Mb Premier plan to one of the Indy plans, that I retained the option of going back to Premier 3Mb! If that's true, I *definitely* will try one of the Indy plans when my current 6-month package expires. Probably the 9Mbps plan.

I think you will find it was a cached file. Try it with something you know isn't cached and outside Thailand. I did quite a bit of testing of this here

I was with 3BB Premier 4Mb service which was great for most of the time, I could max out my giganews downloads at 4Mb. although some days it went down to 40Kb!!!

I thought I would switch to True 16Mb service as it was about the same price and I heard good reports about it.

I am happy to say that the switch was well worth it. Most of the time my downloads of TV progs from Giganews is about 14Mb and the slowest it has ever been is 9Mb. A huge improvement on 3BB.

Also as I had two independant lines coming into the house, one with Tue and one with 3BB I could do direct comparisons of the two services. I tried pinging the BBC in London and the True ping was always better than the 3BB ping. Doing a single streaming download from BBC Iplayer was also a few Kb quicker on True.

My location is Pattaya Hill, Banglamung.

I had a similar experience during the first couple of weeks using True. Wait until the 'honeymoon period' ends. You may feel differently...

Thanks for that link. Most have missed that topic. I did another test, again an HTTP download rather than a torrent, set for single link in my downloader (flashget) from Download.com and still get the same. Possibly cached also but will try further tests on obscure files that are not likely to be cached. The arrows point to the download speed and that it is a single thread/link download.

[ok thanks for the input. I am thinking of giving it a try. I am not on any contract now my hear has gone and passed. I been with 3BB 2 years. I must say it is the best internet I have had. 4 MB premier. I used true a few years back I had the 2 MB SME package it I must say it was so very very bad. somedays I would only get 200 kps on speedtest, to the USA my vonage would not work at all so yes very happy to have something that not works but gets the speed it is suppose to. if the 16 MB gives me a good study 8 to 10 MB and lets me stream HD stuff from netflix and Hulu I would be very happy. one reply to my post said if it is not broke do not fix it, I am staying with 3BB just thinking of switching to the normal 16 MB plan if I am not happy I could always switch back, not sure if I could get teh 4 MB plan or not but I could always go with the higher priced 5 MB. in the next few days I may put in the request to change and I willl keep everyone posted. I look at several things, speed test are a part of it, but being able to download tornets, steaming video, download files is the real test for sure. I am hoping ping times stay about the same as I use VOIP and long ping time will make delays.

I have been using the 16 MB and it is good. it just seems it will cut off from time to time. here is my modem stats

Noise Margin (dB) 8.5 8.8

Attenuation (dB) 15.5 7.7

I know the Atteruation looks a bit low. I can download files at around 1.9 MB max but I noticed a few times per day my connection will drop

Also, your Noise Margin seems a bit weak. If you can get a tech out to check your line, show him those numbers. When I had a 3BB tech come out after I had a new line installed and my noise margins were similar to yours, he understood completely, and left for a short while. When he came back, my noise margin was >35dB, and has stayed there.

I have complained about it so often, it cuts out and drops out often, The tech that came was clueless even after I showed him. I am not far from the exchange form the Attenuation 15.5 I am about 1.1 meters, but the noise is very very bad
