BAGHDAD (BNO NEWS) -- At least 13 people were killed on Saturday morning when a passenger bus ran off a road in southwestern Iraq, local media reported.

The accident happened in the Ifag area of Al-Qadisiyyah Governorate, about 30 kilometers (18 miles) south of Al Diwaniyah, according to the Aswat al-Iraq news agency. It happened early Saturday morning.

"A passenger bus had run through an agriculture combine in Ifag area [..] instantly killing 13 persons, among them women and children," Traffic Police Director Lt. Brigadier Abdul-Amir al-Rikaby told the Iraqi news agency, adding that women and children were among those killed.

al-Rikaby said all the victims were locals who were on their way to Najaf, the capital of Najaf Governorate. Other details were not immediately available.

Early last month, seven people were killed and nearly 50 others were injured when a tourist bus overturned in northern Iraq.
