Where I am at the minute - we are somewhat out in the sticks. Everyday I see locals carrying machetes strapped to their waists - Does anyone know what the law is here regarding this?

Reason I ask, not too far from me, there is a family with a really savage pack of dogs, we almost got mauled tonight, about ten of them attacked me and my 10 year old son, while the Thai family tried to stop them - but these dogs are wild!

The main pack got me as I stopped to hopefully let my son pass me by, they didn't bite me, they did knock me off the bike and I have damaged my knees a bit.

I am just thinking that it may be wise to carry something like a machete or a baseball bat.

I have a 12 bore but it isn't really discrete for these kind of things.

Where do you stand with the police here? Does a dog have to bite you or can the fact it knocks you off a bike on a public road stand for something?

I am a bit peeved to be honest, the "typical" Thai response id..."Don't go down that road"

This is just crazy, it is a public road leading to my home, why can I not use it?

This I can see is going to end in tears, and it won't be mine!

When I stopped my bike after being set upon, a few of the local "tattooed love boys" tried to stop the dogs, there must have been at least ten - completely useless, what are your legal rights? My wife said Go shoot them! Doubt it will help me with next years visa though!

I've been told a very efficient way to keep away stray dogs is to have a water gun filled with a mix of water and ammonia, spray the mix at them when they get too close, it seems they hate it and they will leave you alone.

But honestly I never try.

Agree, just spray them with something. What you don't want to do is bash the neighbors' dogs heads in, unless you want to rusk the neighbors returning the favor to you.

Funny you should say that, but I have had the same thoughts on chemical weapons, just found my hypodermic needles from my ink cartridge replenishing days, and lo and behold I found a nice piece of chicken and would you believe it, some really nasty poison.....I think NICE THINGS COME IN THREES!

Looks like time for a doggy drive by tomorrow!

this was more than a simple disagreement, there was about 10 of these dogs - the people who keep them normally lock them up in cages in the day as they are so savage - I just happened to be unlucky by going past after they were let out!

I am not kidding, if they had got a hold of a small kid they would have ripped it to bits.

Most Thai dogs are like their owners, if you stop and confront the problem they run away with their tails between their legs - These dogs were not having it!

As for the neighbours, I really couldn't give a flying F??K

If they want a problem that is up to them - Like I say - we have enough bits and bobs around our house for self defence, again as a last resort - I would try the "Wonderful" BIB first though - then it would be secret burials in the garden!

Guess I'll try the "seasoned chicken " for a starter - maybe they will get the message that people are a bit pissed off (No - it is not only me - it is lots of locals here too - anyone on a pushbike) when dear old Fido bites the dust!

Dilute some pepper sauce (the hottest you can find) in a water solution in a spray gun/bottle and use that they'll soon learn you're not to be trifled with..

Edit: I forgot to add, just don't spray up wind :whistling: ...

Should be able to pick there items up at any Red Shirt rally, almost standard issue.

Mr. Toad - Let's not bring politics into the life and death of my local Soi dog - believe me, it is simply a matter of time before each and everyone of the Mongrels will be in doggy heaven - red shirt yellow shirt I really care not, but sleeping in Doggy heaven........................I will vouch for that 100%, even if it takes me a year!

No, not pepper spray - I have decided that their death is of paramount importance - and DIE they will - if I get any updates or photos - I'll upload.

Tomorrow is "Poisoned Chicken Day" we shall see what happens there...watch this space tomorrow evening - it normally kills things in less than 12 hours!

If that fails to come to fruition - Thursday will be poison Pork Day!

I am just thinking of the awkwardness of either riding my bike with a machete strapped to my back and a bag of poisoned chicken/pork...I think it will be so much easier to simply drop the foulled food from the car tomorrow!

Anyway, the chicken has been well toxicated, only need to pop it out the car window in a suitable place tomorrow!

Are you serious? You actually think you could somehow how come out ahead in a war with your neighbors? Or that even if you could, you'd want to go through one?

Once upon a time, part of my job was teaching people to fight wars. I know a bit about defense of personnel and territory. Moreover I certainly would never hesitate to do ANYTHING necessary to protect my family. But I would never take the idea of starting something violent with Thais lightly....because there's simply no telling how far it will escalate (but not only can relatively minor stufft escalate to some very serious nastiness, it can escalate all the way to lethal levels; assuming you can survive that, think about what it might take -- what you might have to do -- to do so).

EDIT to ADD:

I base my view on the fact that in the last 3 decades I've been in situations in Thailand that have come rather close to lethal levels (and wound up with some scars and other now healed injuries).

I'm still here -- partly because of managing to do certain things on my own but largely due to some luck and intervention by the right folks -- but I've known some people who didn't survive.

Believe me, you do NOT want to get into a blood feud with neighbors. It can get VERY nasty VERY fast. That's my advice, listen if you want, or not if you don't.

And his kids who have to play in the neighborhood. They're probably ferocious BECAUSE they're locked up all day. Regardless you mentioned your concern about next years visa when your wife suggested shooting them but, a slow, agonizing death of poisioning them is of no concern to you when you're likely to become the first suspect given your recent encounter  ? Silly, impetuous you..

get your wife to have a word with the Puu Yai Ban. (Headman of the Village). It's usually in his interest to keep things sweet. Atleast give him a chance.

Sadly, the Kam Nan (we don't have a Poo Yai Baan) is a retard - with a job for life! He sadly lost "Face" with me a few years back - he was caught stealing the soil from our land - now he hangs his pathetic head in shame and MALICE as he passes me by!

I have time you see, Slowly Slowly Catch The Monkey!

This sounds awful. My biggest concern would be the children. In this case your son. I can pretty much understand where your coming from when you say that the dogs are as good as dead in case they threaten or show aggression against the members of your family.

As I said, this is an awful situation. If it was me I'd move out of there straight away since any dog attacking my family would get sliced and diced with a spiked baton - and rest assure every Thai within 10 miles would come to get me for harming their loved dogs.

I say: take your family and get out of there before anyone gets hurt.

It is not necessary to kill the dogs.

As has been pointed out, some simple ammonia will do. The dogs will learn to keep away very, very quickly. In killing the dogs you run the risk of pissing the neighbours off and putting yourself and your family in danger.

Now, do you think it is at all smart to put your family in danger when there is an alternative?

Oh, and by the way.

Nobody will think your smart or tough if you kill the dogs, most will just think it will make you a bit of a knob.

Maybe it will give him chance to restore his face. Its worth a try before poison, surely .

I've had issues with Poo Yai's and Soi Dogs before. Who hasn't ;)

I took out a Dog a few weeks ago that wouldn't let me pass. it was him or me. luckily found a piece of tree branch with the Characteristics of a Golf Club. caught it more by luck than judgement right on its scull. beautiful twist of the wrist and I'm not even a Golfer. The yelping was almost distressing. It was just a spur of the moment thing. The owners actually gave me a thumbs up afterwards. not seen the dog since, maybe it died from its injuries. Having said that. I would never resort to poison.

Get amongst em in self defence if you have to. but don't turn it into a fued

Then you are not going to live long in this country. Sorry to say.

I have been here 13 years - so it is not a bad innings!

Breathe!!!! IN......... OUT...............IN...........OUT......... You have allies here and most, myself included, feel your anger, frustration and threat the dogs pose to you and your family, but we also see with clearer, emotionally unobstructed vision, the larger picture of the action you've proposed to take..

I was wondering why only the OP was being attacked when the others, in his own words, were just standing around.

I am beginning to understand why he might be singled out now.

You've been given suggestions already which you seemingly choose to ignore.

But still.... SAVAGELY attacked, by ten dogs and you didn't even get bitten once.

If that many dogs genuinely wanted to harm you, they would have done.

RETARD!

Ha.

I bet you're fuming aren't you?

It's easy to see why you can't even deal with a few dogs really.

What really amazes me is hoe people here try to defend the Thais and their dogs! Just look at their behaviour they are crazy, look at them on the roads! (Now you are wondering whether I mean the Thais or the Dogs!!!)

But come on, since when do we need to make excuses for a dogs behaviour?
