Bringing Cats

Featured Replies

Hi there.

I have five pet cats I need to bring to Thailand if I am moving there (thinking of Chiang Mai or Rai).

I am wondering if people can advise me on what they think is the best structure to achieve this. Will I be able to rent any house with five cats or am I totally limited to buying?

How about hotel / lodging accommodation in the initial phase while I look for a place?

Also, are there any quality cat lodgings in the area, where of course the pet residents are not allowed into the same spaces as stray animals such as wandering dogs?

It's shaping up to be quite a problem. Need advice.

I don't think cats would be a big issue when renting. I think landlords are more worried about dogs (they're noisy, they chew the furniture). I came to Thailand with two dogs and a cat (one dog is a beast) and had no trouble finding a place to live. Sure, some landlords didn't want pets, but there were plenty that said 'no problem'. Hotels would be an issue, though. I'd recommend doing what I did: rent a house for a month. Come here, settle in and then spend that month going around and looking for a more permanent place. Worked well for me and it was so much easier than staying at a hotel.
