Party's executive board rules out coalition citing irreconcilable ideological differences

The Pheu Thai Party has shut its doors on the rival Bhum Jai Thai Party, ruling out speculation about the two sharing the same coalition bandwagon.

In a strongly worded statement released yesterday and signed by party leader Yongyuth Wichaidit, Pheu Thai cited irreconcilable differences in ideology and work as grounds for shunning Bhum Jai Thai.

"The Pheu Thai executive board has resolved not to work with Bhum Jai Thai following the vote," the party said.

Bhum Jai Thai had earlier said it could work with any political party in a post-election coalition. The party was also eager to form a political alliance with smaller parties such as Chart Thai Pattana and Chart Pattana Puea Pandin - a move viewed as a bid to boost their chances of being part of the next coalition government.

Democrat Party secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban said various coalition scenarios would collapse along with Pheu Thai's false expectations of victory.

"Once the voting outcome is known, coalition formation will commence," he said.

Suthep said he saw no justification in soliciting alliance pledges ahead of balloting.

Chart Thai Pattana adviser Sanan Kachornprasart said he was unaware that Pheu Thai had dispatched representative Pongsak Ruktapongpisal to negotiate power-sharing.

Sanan said he was focusing on the campaign, adding this was not the time for alliance negotiations.

He said the composition of the next coalition would hinge on how well the so-called "government managers" could broker a deal among potential allies.

"The next government could emerge in a number of ways and anything is possible," he said.

He said he was optimistic of bringing about national reconciliation following the July 3 vote, noting that Pheu Thai candidate Natthawut Saikua and Democrat Chamni Sakdiseth had already made a joint appearance on Channel 3 to debate the amnesty issue.

Pheu Thai prime ministerial candidate Yingluck Shinawatra yesterday led the party's election campaign to the Central provinces of Angthong, Chai Nat, and Sing Buri.

In Angthong, she was greeted by a group of local red shirts and Pheu Thai supporters. Local yellow shirts reportedly closed their shops or stayed indoors while Yingluck's entourage was in the community.

Earlier in the day, Yingluck went to Siriraj Hospital where she signed get-well books for His Majesty the King and HRH Princess Chulabhorn Valayalaksana.

In Sing Buri, Yingluck was scheduled to give a campaign speech at the provincial stadium last night to woo votes for Pheu Thai's local candidate.

Today and tomorrow, she is scheduled to campaign in several suburban areas of Bangkok and then Nonthaburi and Chon Buri.

Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva yesterday went to Chiang Mai as part of his campaign in the North, amid tight police protection.

Chiang Mai is considered a stronghold of the Pheu Thai Party and the "capital city" of the red-shirt movement.

There were a few interruptions by the red shirts. A man in his 40s who said he was a Chiang Mai red shirt shouted that he wanted to "see the heartless man" when Abhisit arrived at a local school to meet local Democrat supporters. Police later asked the man to leave and accompanied him out of the premises.

A handful of red shirts also mingled with some 1,000 Democrat supporters waiting to greet the prime minister at the school. They threw ice cubes at his motorcade but missed his car. They were immediately forced to leave by the police.

Earlier, Chiang Mai's well-known red-shirt radio host Kanyapak "DJ Aom" Maneejak appeared with her guards at the school, saying she wanted to greet the prime minister and hear him talk about his policy platforms. Police managed to get her to leave after half an hour of persuasion.

Before arriving in Chiang Mai, Abhisit had campaigned in the Northern provinces of Lampang, Phayao and Lamphun.

In Lamphun, Abhisit took part in a ceremony to ward off evil spirits conducted by monks at a local Buddhist temple, along with senior Democrats Chaiwuti Bannawat and Satit Wongnongtaey, as well as the party's local election candidates.

The prime minister had stayed overnight at the temple in Lamphun's Pa Sang district. In the morning, he went to the local fresh market, where he was greeted by local villagers.

Pheu Thai refuses to collaborate with Bhumjaithai

news2011-06-03_08-51-35_255406030001_PueaThai.JPG

BANGKOK, 3 June 2011 (NNT) – The Pheu Thai Party has issued an announcement confirming that it will not cooperate with the Bhumjaithai Party in forming a new government.

In its announcement, the Pheu Thai Party said it will not join hands with the Bhumjaithai Party in carrying out political activities after the 3 July election as reported in some news since political ideologies and working styles of the two parties are completely different.

The announcement was signed by Pheu Thai Party Leader Yongyuth Wichaidit on 2 June 2011 following a discussion on the matter of the party’s executives.

Earlier, it was reported that the two parties might cooperate in forming a new government if the Pheu Thai Party could gain the highest votes in the upcoming general election. Later a Bhumjaithai constituency candidate came out to support the matter.

Many Pheu Thai core members have so far been refusing political cooperation with the Bhumjaithai Party which has been saying that it is ready to work with any political parties who can form a new government in order to continue its policies.

Bhum Jai Thai Hits Back at Pheu Thai

The Bhum Jai Thai Party has hit back at the Pheu Thai after it announced yesterday that it was not interested in forming an alliance with the BJT. Bhum Jai Thai senior members stated that the Pheu Thai was being disrespectful to voters by setting up a coalition government ahead of elections. It said the Pheu Thai should not be so confident as popularity changes almost everyday ahead of election day.

It concluded by saying that it, too, is not interested in forming a coalition government under the leadership of Pheu Thai Party.

Yingluck Shinawatra, meanwhile, denied speculation that her brother Thaksin was the person who ordered a statement be released to quell rumors that Bhum Jai Thai would be joining hands with Pheu Thai after the election.

"since political ideologies and working styles of the two parties are completely different"

since when has this ever been a problem for politicians?

These statements are just part of the normal bargaining process.

First I've seen that Red Shirt Leader Kanyapak was even back in Thailand.

Previously, the last word was that the Red Shirt fugitive was holed up in Cambodia.

Phnom Penh has also recently handed over two red-shirt protesters, believed to have been involved in a bombing outside the Bhum Jai Thai Party headquarters.

In addition to Arisman, the Red Shirt Bomber Couple deported from Cambodia, Warisriya Boonsom (left) and Kobchai Boonplod (right), said that other Red Shirt fugitives such as Chulalongkorn Hospital Raiding Party Leader Payap Panket and Notorious Love Chiang Mai 51 Gang Leader Kanyapak Maneejak were in Cambodia.

Yingluck denies her brother Thaksin ordered Pheu Thai to turn down Bhum Jai Thai in joining coalition to form govt /TAN_Network

but she would say that wouldn't she?

if she is his clone as Thaksin claims, then she too will have a gene inherited propensity to lie......

Yes, nothing else.

That will be the big reconciliation everyone is talking about.

Pumjai Thai's one and only selling point is their constituency MPs, nobody's ever accused them of having an ideology to attract voters in the Party List.

But to increase their votes in the Party List, they hoped, by aligning themselves publicly with Pheua Thai, they could poach some votes from those who would vote for Pumjai Thai constituency MPs but vote for Pheua Thai in the Party List.

'You might as well vote for us on the Party List also because we're coming with you anyway, Pheua Tai sympathizers'.

Pheua Thai saw through the game and cut them out- but of course everything depends on the voting on July 3.

"Thaksin thinks, PT acts." So, according to their own slogan, this act by PT must be the result of the thoughts of Thaksin.

Either way, as long as Yingluck is on the public stage - even if she becomes PM, she will always have that cloud hanging over her - as long as her brother is alive. Pretty much everything she says or does publicly from this point on, will be scrutinized in the light of "Thaksin thinks, PT acts" prism. Like George Harrison's song "Looking through a Glass Onion" She will have to constantly claim (as she did in this latest news) that this is her (or her party's) policy, and that it wasn't dictated by Thaksin. What a burden for her. It's a yoke of their own making.

Bum Jai Thai is part of the coalition government under Abhisit.

PTP is in the opposition.

Throw in, "she's my clone", for an extra helping of depreciating the role she plays.

If PT & BJT need each other to form a government, this announcement will be buried and forgotten.<_< A better title might be "PT slams the door one BJT.... until July 4.... maybe."

Not sure why you felt the need to write this, dear samurai. Just to be sure since you might have missed this, the House has been dissolved, we'll have NEW elections on the 3rd of July. Every party is the opposition while moving and shuffling for 'position', 'edge', 'voter favour'.

BJT is still part of the caretaker government which does the day-to-day things a government does. Nothing special or new, that's for a new government. As the House has been dissolved by the PM without a need from within, or a successful censure from outside, coalition partners are still doing the minimal work together, like the 'professionals' they are. Democracy in action :)
