Pheu Thai complaint against multi-coloured-shirt leader

By The Nation on Sunday

The Pheu Thai Party has decided to file a complaint against multi-coloured-shirt group leader Dr Tul Sitthisomwong after he vowed to launch a graft complaint with the Department of Special Investigation to probe Yingluck's role as a nominee in the asset-concealment case involving former premier Thaksin Shinawatra and his family.

Pheu Thai Party spokesman Prompong Nopparit alleged yesterday that Tul intended to undermine Yingluck's popularity, thereby violating Article 53 (5) relating to the election of MPs and senators. The offence carries a maximum 10 years imprisonment and a Bt200,000 fine.

The spokesman said that he would file the complaint with the Election Commission in the coming week.

Prompong said the move to wreck Yingluck's reputation was initiated because poll surveys showed she and the Pheu Thai Party would emerge the winner in the July 3 election. He said his party believed there were others behind Tul's action. He urged them to stop their "dirty tactics" of spearheading a graft drive in the middle of an election campaign just to destroy political rivals.

"People who benefit from the move to discredit Yingluck are none other than those who side with Dr Tul. His action is not gentlemanly because he is harassing a woman who is volunteering to solve the problems of the country and the people,'' he said.

Asked if Tul's plan to file a graft complaint against her on June 21 would adversely affect the party since it is close to election day, Yingluck downplayed the move, saying she must see the complaint in detail first. She said she just has to clarify the matter and let it move in accordance with the law.

Tul who spearheaded the multi-coloured-shirt campaign last year will launch an anti-Yingluck campaign by setting up a table to solicit signatures at Thammasat University on June 18.

What are they worrying about. A little heat is something Yingluck better get used to. She does have a shadowy history with regards to her brothers affairs. Could Khun Yingluck become a sitting duck. Better she go back to her office with a view.

'Multicolours' launch graft campaign on Yingluck

The so-called "multicolour" shirts Friday launched a signature campaign to initiate graft proceedings against Pheu Thai Party candidate Yingluck Shinawatra and her brother, Thaksin Shinawatra.

The campaign, spearheaded by Tul Sitthisomwong, will set up a table to solicit signatures at Thammasat University on June 18.

Tul said he wanted the Department of Special Investigation to probe Yingluck as a nominee in the asset concealment case involving ex-PM Thaksin and his family.

Pheu Thai to sue Tul for misleading public about Yingluck

BANGKOK, 4 June 2011 (NNT) – The Pheu Thai Party is planning to file charges against Alliance of Patriots Coordinator Tul Sitthisomwong for trying to damage Pheu Thai top candidate Yingluck Shinawatra’s popularity with a false accusation.

In response to Tul’s recent announcement that he would ask the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) to seek indictment of Ms Yingluck for her involvement as a nominee in the Shin Corp share case, Pheu Thai Party Spokesperson Prompong Nopparit deemed the move as political mudslinging against his party.

He noted that although Tul had not been politically active for quite some time, his actions against Pheu Thai during the election campaign were intentional in terms of timing.

As claimed by Mr Prompong, it is obvious Tul is attempting to discredit Ms Yingluck after a number of surveys suggested that her popularity was in the lead.

He believed there was a mastermind behind this issue and thus called for him or her to stop such an unscrupulous tactic and turn to compete with policies and candidates’ capabilities instead.

At the same time, the Pheu Thai Spokesperson pointed out that Tul’s action was in violation of the electoral law as he had misled voters about Ms Yingluck and the Pheu Thai Party. Therefore, he said the legal team would submit a letter with the Election Commission (EC) within next week to propose for its consideration on the matter. If found guilty, the activist could face a prison term of ten years and a fine of between 20,000-200,000 THB and could also be banned for ten years from partaking in elections.

Welcome to the political world!!!! It's a valid point the guy is making, and the retort is absurd!!! "He is not a gentleman doing this to a woman". Then, by that logic, why should a woman be a public figure if she can hide behind the fact she is a woman???? Racism, sexism, all in the news this week being used as propaganda and for political gain!!! Doesn't seem like a lowball tactic, just regular political fire. The lowball defense though is amusing, disappointing, and the actions of a party that shouldn't be in power!!!

It's a valid point to be brought up BEFORE the election, so voters know who they are actually voting for, even if they already don't!!!!

Clutching at straws comes to mind. When you run for any public office, you social background, business, and political will be hung out for all to see. Polls, guesstimates, etc quoted by either side are those that place them in a good position This sounds like some of Big Brothers advice, sue those who oppose us verbally. If the opposition breaks campaign law, criminal charges can be sought. Until then crawl back into you bomb shelter as there is probably more to come.

Yingluck just stepped into the lime light. There was no need to do it earlier.

And why wait until after she could be elected and enacted her amnesty laws?

To obtain maximum impact in further destroying her already sullied reputation of compliance with her crooked brother's corrupt and fraudulent dodgy dealings of course!!!;) What other reason could it be???

May I offer my congratulations if it succeeeds in what it is intended to do and that is to pull the rug from under Pheu Thai after they have built up their expectations and hopes so high only to see this collapse all around them and allow Abhisit to retake the helm and run the country properly for the benefit of Thailand and ALL Thai's!!

Thank you, I have now read the whole Reuters article, so at this time she hasn't been accused or found guilty of anything, but there is still 4 weeks to go.

<quote Reuters>

Apichart Sukhagganond, chairman of Thailand's Election Commission, said Yingluck was qualified to run because she had not been convicted of a crime. However, complaints against any candidate could still be filed.

They want to keep the image of her in court crying while testifying about her brothers parking money through her. We know the outcome; the money was found to be illegally hidden through subterfuge. The courts still had the option of pursuing the people who helped Thaksin hide the money in patently illegal manners. She was clearly one of them.

Totally fair play to

a ) prod the court into pursuing it.

b ) bring this up back into voters memories.

c ) point out that she is easily seen as a Pawn Of Her Brother.

See the post above for a start:

Yingluck testified to the SEC that the 20 million shares of Shin Corp stock were hers.

The Supreme Court ruled (as per the Reuters article) that Thaksin was the controller of the stock for Yingluck and about a dozen other Shinawatra/Damapong clan members.

That's where the perjury allegations come from. If the court determined that it was Thaksin's stock and not hers, she lied to the SEC about it being hers.

When the Shin sale first went through, Yingluck pocketed nearly a Billion baht for her portion.

#edit. That's a billion, with a "B"

I Think that Thailand would be better off without another Shinawatra running for office, as she will be seen as a puppet for her brother's agenda, Thailand does not need an amnesty, it needs for the convicted criminal to serve his sentence in a Thai prison, He must be given the same rights as those who lost their lives in his anti-drug program and the 80 some young men that were stuffed like sardines in army trucks to be driven to prison.

How soon some forget!

The courts ruled that she was acting as a nominee ---- she is eligible for perjury charges with the SET and the courts. These are punishable by jail-time if convicted. People sentenced to jail are not eligible to be an MP -- and you must be an MP to become PM :)

If it had been brought up earlier then it would be less likely to be seen as politically motivated to ruin her election chances. I don't know why this hasn't been dealt with before but there may be a valid reason.

Also are you on a commission promoting Thai soaps

It has basically been two reasons.

a ) Thai justice is QUITE slow, most of the time.

b ) it was also a Sword of Damoclese hanging over all the nominees heads, in the hopes they might not act aggressively. ie. If you don't start hassles we'll let this sit for the moment if you make moves on stability this is ALWAYS available to use in the near term.

Use is not necessarily about the completely legal aspect, but the socio-political one as a card to play also. This card was just played, and the dealer could care less about how we perceive it, as long as it is seen for what it is: a clear weakness in her fitness for office.

The problem for her is, Thaksin is more obsessed with his comeback than with the extended families well being, or simply places his getting power back as away to stifle the charges once he holds the controls again.

Never remembering how he got diddly squat when PPP was in power on his returning... they never got him his free pass and he left again. What makes him think having Yingluck as PM makes it easier to get a personal amnesty in place? Certainly it removes Samak's self serving ego from the equation but Somchai didn't get it done either.

Seems he is throwing Yingluck into the legal, social potboiler, and hoping to save her butt later, in the passion play he thinks he is directing :

Martyred Thaksin returns, and saves 'His Families Dynasty' and rules Thailand into a neo-Sino-Thai golden age.

In many ways I feel sorry for her. Forced into a familial duty she is unprepared for.
