I came to Bangkok on a one-year, multiple-entry, non-immigrant B visa. This visa expired on 4th August 2005.

A few days before it expired, I went over the border to Cambodia and received another 90-day stamp (though not a visa extension).

This 90-day stamp is due to expire on 1st November.

I have been working while here, but have not found a company prepared to actually apply for a work-permit for me. My current employer has promised to do so in the near future.

My query is: what is the best course of action for me on or before 1st November? If I go to the Cambodia border again, will immigration grant me an automatic 60-day tourist visa if I pay a fee? Or do I have to apply for it in advance?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Mat.

No, if you do not have a visa, issued by a Thai embassy or consulate outside of Thailand, the best you can get is a 30-day-entry as tourist.

A better way would be, with a letter of your employer stating that they employ you and will apply for a work permit, to apply for another Non-imm B. Single entry will do if your employer qualifies for hiring a foreigner and thus you can apply for extented stay up to one year.

To add to what Axel said (which is 100%).

You will probably end up going to KL for your B visa, Penang has tightened the requirements for a non-B (there's another thread about this).

Get your employer started NOW on sorting a WP, if everything is in order you should get it before your stay expires, then (assuming salary conditions) you can return to immigration and get a 12 month extension without leaving the country.

Thanks both for your advice.

If I can't get a WP arranged in time, what are my chances of securing another non-imm B visa at Kuala Lumpur?

(I was granted a 1-year multiple-entry non-imm B from the Thai consulate in Birmingham, UK, and the only documentation i submitted was a cover letter from a comany.)

I thought that, to receive a second no-imm B, I would need a WP?

Many thanks again,

Mat.

When I applied to the Thai consulate in Birmingham (UK), I simply sent a letter that said "Mr Hunt will be employed once he arrives in Thailand, and his work will require that he make frequent trips inside and outside the Kingdom".
