June 13, 201115 yr Hi all, Quick question. I have an American niece who wants to come visit for 90 days. If I understand correctly, she can get a 60-day tourist visa back in the US and get a 30-day extension once she is here. I understand the difference between a visa and a period-of-stay stamp and my question is will she receive a 60-day stamp on entry? If so, she can pay for a 30-day extension and no problem. If she gets a 30-day stamp and has to apply for two 30-day extensions, then she might as well come in as a regular tourist (30-day visa on entry from US), do two 30-day extensions and save the cost of getting a visa in the US. Is this accurate? Thanks.
June 13, 201115 yr If she gets a tourist visa she will get 60 days stamp when enter and it can be extended for another 30 days for 1900 baht at a immigration office, yes. but if she enters without a visa she will get 30 day stamp when she enters but that can _not_ be extended for 30 days, only for 7 and it costs the same, 1900 baht. she would have to leave the country and return by air to get another 30 day stamp (arriving by land gets 15day stamp). better and less hassle way is to get the tourist visa in my opinion for 3 months stay
June 13, 201115 yr She will need to apply for a tourist visa and extend that one in Thailand. Without a tourist visa the airline might not let her borad, as without a visa one must have proof of onward travel within 30 days.
