Good News for those who like Italian food, Il Pirate , the restaurant that used to be by the old

Top Ten bar has reopened in a new place. It is situated on the old Chang Mai road.

If you travel through Den Ha heading south , just before the road expands in to 6 lanes , you

will find it on your left.

It opens at 11:00 am - about 8-9pm depending on customers.

The food before was really good and I can recommend his Pizza as my personal choice.

Bon Appitite.

I'll have to go have a look at the place. I am aware of a new restaurant in that area, accompanied by a new store that has booze on display in the windows. I am hoping the restaurant you speak of isn't the same place.

The wife and I decided to go try that new restaurant by the new store a while back. As it was being built, it was advertised as a seafood restaurant. Someone wrote on here about how good the new place was. If it is the same restaurant, they have lost our business before we even tried it out. We parked in front of the place that evening and didn't even get out of the car before deciding we didn't need to be there. There were music videos playing across the TV screen and painfully loud music blaring from the big speakers that sit inside the place. There was one couple sitting in there eating. We sat there in the car for about two minutes and then drove away. I am sure I am outnumbered here in this but I will not try to sit through a meal where the music is so loud that it hurts. Dunno why anyone thinks that is a draw but apparently in CR, it is a draw. For me, if the food is great and they are offering it for free, I won't be eating there if I can't hear whoever I am with.

I noticed another thing there. They put the building right up against the highway and put the parking lot on the side of the building. So, the open building basically has some of the tables right next to the highway. The amount of dirt that fast traffic picks up is a downer when it is floating into your eating area. And the noise of being right next to the highway in an open-air building is a distraction, too. It would have been easy enough to put the building on the back of the lot, further from the highway and put the parking area between the building and the highway. But they aren't alone in that. It seems most CR eating places like to have their tables right next to the traffic, the dirt, the noise and the pollution.

Anyway, I'll have a look tomorrow for the Italian place. Maybe it isn't the same place and maybe there is some good news there.

Kandaha, the place you are mentioning is Deena Plaza, it opened a few months ago . I was one

of the first customers there and basically waited forever for the food to arrive. There was only me and the wife eating and no other customers. Since they have been opened the owner has put glass panels

all around the entrance which does help with the noise of the traffic and dust etc.

I was there a few days ago at about lunchtime, again no customers other than me and a couple of

friends. Music was very low but I can see that in the evenings they have live music.

Apprently, the owner is Vietnamese/American , I forget his name but I think he is called

BJ / CJ / DJ or something like that , he told me he is opening up a snooker hall at the back

of the bar area , so that will be a bonus.

As for the Market , its a bit of basic items and thats it, he would have been better off stocking

up with as many farang Items like Villa Market has and then I think it would do well , maybe if he reads

this it will give him the push to help us all by supplying .

The Italian place is before the road goes into 6 lanes, about 200 mtrs before Deena Plaza, on the same side .

Yeah, we went for a bike ride this morning and found the little pizza place. Will try it out soon. Have no idea what the days and hours of operation are but will find out.

While you are searching for a good pizza you might try the pizza at Don's. We have had the same cook cooking it for 14 years under my supervision in Phuket and here. Many people many say it is one of the best that they have eaten. We have a wide variety with medium crust and reasonable cost. You can eat in our waterfront dinning Sala or the Little Longhorn Saloon "Center for Intellectual Enlightenment". Hang a pole over the side of the bar and catch a fish while you are waiting. Fish in Doi Hang are easy to catch. I am here everyday now to make sure customers are pleased with the food and service. Each Sunday we have a 100 Baht, 8 items of light food buffet from 12:00 to 15:00. Main restaurant is closed on Sunday but the buffet and saloon are open.

Sounds good Don, I'll be back in town in August after several months of work outside the country. I may even drag along a couple of my reprobate friends as well.

Gave IL Pirata a try today at lunch time. Three pizzas and some garlic bread, take out. The pizza crust is the thin traditional Italian style. When I ordered, he said it would be twenty minutes. It was. Didn't see pasta on the menu but another cusotmer was served a nice pasta dish as I waited. Maybe they have more than one menu. I only asked for a pizza menu.

Nice people running the place. Hours are from eleven in the morning to eight or nine at night, depending on how busy they are. Open seven days a week.

Nice to have something different in this section of town. I asked about delivery but he said they don't deliver at this time. Maybe in the future?

They have several dining tables inside. The place was clean and there was soft music playing from speakers.

Thanks Don but with all due respect, we where talking here about an italian restaurant with a real italian Chef and Real italian food, thought I respect American Pizza, italian is the Real Thing, and specially by Renato.

This said, give him a try, it is well worth it, and for me one of the very few reason to visit Chiang Rai.

Love it!
