Apple Id / Itunes Store Thailand

Featured Replies

I never bought any SW or other media at the App store. What I ever downloaded was free.

I have an Apple-ID with a fake name and fake address in USA. Not for any scam, but just to protect my privacy. The ID is not connected to any credit card.

Now it is time I want to buy something and I have to enter credit card information. This is probably not possible with my old ID, even if I change my name to the correct one. I cannot change the country - so I must stay with an US address, I believe?

My idea is to get a new Apple ID with correct name/address and link it to my European credit card.

But as I live in Thailand, and the billing address of the credit card is Bangkok, I worry if I will be restricted to some Thai-only limited Apple store.

So what to do? How do you expats manage this problem?

One question: Do you use iTunes to buy stuff ?

If you do, I always do it with iTunes Gift Cards http://www.apple.com/itunes/gifts/, so I don't have to use my Credit Card. (I also don't have no CC on file with Apple)

This way I buy stuff in iTunes UK and USA. (2 different accounts of course)

Good idea. Must I buy a physical card, or can they just email me the code? I'm not located in USA and have no connections there. Only my Apple-ID is located in the US shop.

Itunes does not check the credit card billing adress only the number and expire date.

I have an UK Itunes account with UK credit card but a Thai billing address.

Works fine.

I tried that - it doesn't work.

It says I must have a US credit card and matching billing address.

So probably I must switch to Thai iTunes store..... what disadvantages does that imply?

As far as I am aware, I am based in Thailand but using the US app store through my Mac or iPad and have it linked to my Thai bank account and I can buy things with no problems.

Perhaps it has worked in the past. Now it no longer works.

Finally I created a new Apple-ID, with my European credit card and Thai address.

It worked so far... BUT:

  • Cannot buy any media (music+movies) from iTunes. Not so big problem as we have Torrents.. :)
  • Cannot buy any books except for some free books from Gutenberg. This is a bigger problem. But Kindle is another solution.
  • Can buy most Apps - at least.

So with the Thai shop you are severely limited. Probably because Thais don't read and get their music for free.

If you still have a foreign credit card with foreign address, use this one!

As stated a million times on here:

You can use a virtual visa such as usunlocked.om or purchase us gift cards online from numerous numeroous sellers who email you the code and you pay them with paypal.

being doing it that way for the last 4 years and full access to ALL US content on the itunes store.

That loophole has been "fixed". When your credit card expires u will no longer be able to update the credit card info in your U S account. U will have to open a Thai account using your U S credit card with a Thai billing address.
