How To Find Used Books By Mail In Thailand

Featured Replies

Hello,

I would like to buy Four Agreements by Ruiz and Memories, Dreams, and Reflections, and Man and His Symbols used in SE Asia to save on shipping as well as the books. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Tom

Maybe get in touch with Canterbury tales in Pattaya they have many used books, They are on the Internet

...or even Google:

1] used bookshops Thailand/BKK

2] bookshops Thailand

3] bookshops and publishers Thailand

:o

These are very popular books and very difficult to find used. You might consider biting the bullet and ordering them new from Kinokuniya in Bangkok.

Try these people. I live up-country and they send by EMS too.

I can recommend them.

when it comes to used books, this guy knows what he is talking about. He owns probably the most successful and longlived used book store in Thailand...Gecko Books in Chiang Mai

While we are on the topic, any good places in BKK that will buy used books for a reasonable price?

I am clearing my shelves and a little cash in return would be nice.

Shipping's less expensive within SE Asia, but the books themselves are much less expensive in the West. Check Abebooks and you'll find sellers offering each of those books for US$1 apiece, with shipping to Thailand running about $9.50/book, though some sellers do offer cheaper shipping. It'll also be cheaper if you can find a single seller with all the books you want, and get a combined shipment rate.

Also check the Book Depository, where prices include worldwide shipping.

Seconded - have dealt with them for years; excellent service and a huge range of books. EMS deliveries to Ubon received one or two days after bank payment made.

It's funny how you can tell the types who visit/are geared toward each bookshop.

In the 'beach' areas it's all Jackie Collins/Jeffrey Archer/Wilbur Smith et al bought from airport outlets'. Further inland are a plethora of very interesting books left/exchanged, I would assume, by the more discerning expat/traveler. A browse through Dasa's stock will quickly avail you of the fact that their clients make up the dour, the dry/pretentious with very little interest in the way of contemporary works. Cormack MacCarthy/Orwell/Ibsen etc. All very fine of course, but nothing much after 1970. Two visits with Anil's Ghost and Under the Volcanoe were enough for me.

The very best selection of second hand books are to be found in the Khao Saen area. Or buy on Amazon - much cheaper than that ridiculously overpriced Japanese outlet even with postage added.

I am just getting back to my search. Thanks a lot for the ideas. I will check these sources out and report back what I came up with.

Well I never, you learn something new every day, bought so many books over the years from Gecko.

Ulysees, how about a loyalty discount card for TV members ? :whistling:

I have not purchased a paper book since I discovered the Kindle. The variety of books is mind boggling and many thousands are available free. It's an amazing device that goes everywhere with me.

The next time a friend comes for a visit from the US, I will ask him to bring me another one for a spare in case something goes wrong with the one I have.

Losing my Kindle would be a major disaster for me.
