Thai workers warned of fraudulent jobs in Canada

LOEI: -- Thai workers who want to work in Canada should directly contact government employment offices in their respective provinces to avoid being cheated by fraudulent private brokers, according to a senior labour official.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has informed the Ministry of Labour's employment offices throughout the country that more than 50 Thai workers have been cheated by the private employment agents.

"The fradulent private brokers demanded for cash as high as Bt 300,000-350,000 each from Thai workers wanting to work in the farm sector in Toronto in Canada. In fact, the weather in Toronto is now very warm and there are no jobs offered in its agricultural sector--even the search for worms and larvas for fishing businesses as claimed by the fraudulent agents," Chief employment official in Thailand's northeastern Loei Province Miss Sirida Tangkanasingh told journalists.

"Thai nationals wanting to work abroad, including Toronto, should directly seek assistance from government employment offices in their respective provinces to avoid being cheated by the illegal private brokers," she suggested.

Those who had been offered the fradulent jobs in Toronto had reportedly been indebted to support their travelling expenses and to pay a high commission to the illegal agents, as well as faced difficulties abroad, Miss Sirida said.
