July 4, 201115 yr Hi, Firstly thanks for taking the time to read my post! In 3 months time I am hoping to move to Thailand for a 1-2 year period. Learning Thai on a ED visa. I'm from Australia by the way. I have 2 plans in mind: 1) Go on a tourist visa. 2 months +1. When I am there, look for a school and apply for an ED visa. Is this possible? Or once I am signed up at a school would I need to exit the country to apply for the ED visa? 2) I'm going to Bangkok in a couple of weeks time for a short trip to sort out some things before I arrive for the main stay. Accommodation etc. Am I best to enroll in a school then? Take the documents back to Sydney and apply for a ED visa straight away? Only problem is I have 2 or 3 days in BKK. I'm worried I wont have enough time. Also on the Royal Thai Consulate General Sydney iwebsite it states The validity of visa is 3 months. You will be permitted to stay in Thailand for a period not exceeding 90 days. An extension of stay for an additional 30 days can be requested at the Office of the Immigration Bureau located at Is that for a single entry ED visa? Or the same for a multi entry ED? Thanks in advance for any suggestions and help. Cheers!
July 4, 201115 yr A 30 day extension of stay would be for a tourist visa. Non immigrant visas are extended for a purpose and for non full study that would normally be 90 days. A single entry provides on 90 day stay - a multi entry unlimited stays of up to 90 days during the one year it is valid.
