O-A retirement visa obtained in your home country. Later annual extensions based on retirement.

Option to start in the retirement extension system without using an O-A.

Plenty of info on the forum about how to do both.

perhaps this should be in the other visa section as it relates to a visa to reside in Thailand

Depends what you mean by "some back up". 60,000 Baht a month will leave you a tad short of the monthly requirement of 65,000 Baht required for an extension of stay, you can show a cash deposit in a bank in Thailand to make up the difference.

And yes, this might have got more advice in the section that deals with visas in Thailand.
