Hi, I talk to a lot of people and it seems that some who are not so familiar with Thailand and with Phuket in particuar claim there is no surf in Thailand. I took a few pictures today and it was not a particularly good day.

Judge for yourself but those guys had lots of fun!

is walen the self-professed *hub* of surfing in thailand, or just thai language ??? do you have a "meaning of life" course i could sign up on ?

Can we get an ED visa for studying surfing? Maybe if we wai phra while hanging ten?

When the surf is decent the riptide is pretty dangerous, hence the red warning flags. A for effort Mac!

You just have to repeat everything twice after the instructor and you'll be surfing 4 times faster that at other schools?

The pics don't represent the surf we have been having on Kata beach the last several weeks. Those waves are quite small. Pics are of longboarders. Most of what I have seen this year have been really skilled Thai's and some local expats riding short boards. They would not be out in the small surf pictured above.

I am glad to hear there is surf in Holland, but we are also happy that there is surf in Thailand. On some days it is really good. Yesterday it was not bad at all.

How many days is it for?

The first set was taken on Saturday and the second on Monday. There is so much going on the Kata beach that I could have spent there all day. Amazing place.

The idea of a surf school is not so new but not easy to make it work. Thanks for joining aridion. Interest in learning to surf is limited but hopefully growing.

Also I will need some teachers, I am getting worse and worse. All the office work makes me weak and for surfing you need to be fit!

Is there much groundswell on Phuket during the high season? Ie Nov - Feb or is it mainly wind swell during the rainy season?

I would love to get back into surfing, but anything above 3-4ft would probably destroy me!

I didn't realize there were so many pro-surfers on TV.

Sure, it's not Pipeline, but more than enough fun for beginners and some fun at the beach.

As a former surfer, you need bigger board for smaller waves. So if you have tankers, it's okay for Phuket waves!

I appreciate your comment very much Dlock, we never pretended to be based in Indonesia, like in Bali for example. Thailand has its limitations when it comes to surf but still it can be plenty of fun. You will always find some negative minds that will turn every positive initiative into deplorable thing and shame be on them. For those who wish to lear surfing Phuket maybe be a good place to start. I had lots of fund with waves in Phuket and I am sure I am not the only one. Why the hate? That is a very good question. I myself do not know the answer.

Sbrer, she was definitely Thai. Beautiful girl. One of the great things about surfing is that you see lots of beautiful women on the beach and surfer girls are usually very attractive too.
