Thaksin, Red Shirts Cast Shadow Over Yingluck Govt

clones are only good for spare parts. The rest is waste and has to be disposed off...

Do you actually believe what comes out of your keyboard? She's a democratically elected leader accepted not only by the Thais but the EU, the USA, all of Asia and the UN so who are you?

Even though she will most likely be found to have come to power whilst breaking the national election laws. All the globalists approvers you cite won't care about that I'm sure, but they ought to. On the contrary, when the inevitable ruling comes in they will scream that democracy has been usurped, when in fact only the rule of law has been applied. They barely disguise their contempt for the citizens of developing nations with their double standards. No one raised an eyebrow either in the US or outside when both parties there used whatever means the law provided to contest the 2000 presidential election . Not all agreed with the outcome, but everyone accepted the process.

And so what? The democrats stood down! There's no comparison she won outright!

It really annoys me that so many Ferrang have a false opinion on this subject. I believe we all strive for and try to promote democracy in the world but when it happens here in Thailand there's too many on this thread who would deny the Thais that right due to their own prejudice. She won by a huge margin so let her rule the country or would you prefer we go back to the old dictatorship of Abhisit? I have nothing against the man but he wasn't fairly elected by his people so he's gone!

"Dictatorship of Abhisit"

He was elected an MP. He was elected PM. He called elections before due. Where is this "dictatorship"?

If some manouver stops her or another PTP choice being PM all hell will break loose. She will become PM in the next few weeks imho

K. Abhisit was fairly elected as MP in the December 2007 elections. He was fairly elected as PM by legal MPs in December 2008.

As for Ms. Yingluck, don't worry she'll most likely be the first female PM of Thailand. That's democracy in action.

As for 'false opinions', now that's opening a completely new can of worms. We can get philosophical on when an opinion or belief is false, or perceived as false by others. Let me first go and buy at least two boxes of beer before we start on this :)

She didn't win, Thaksin won.

And now she's pretending to be making the important decisions.

Every prospective Pheua Thai MP had to sign an undated letter of resignation and hand it to Thaksin before the election.

Now that's what I call a dictatorship

Pheua Thai will end up doing deals with the elites and stab the divided red shirts in the back. Just how they will respond is the question. The military will crush them. True!

He was fairly elected by the law, what remains to be seen is if all incoming MP's were. Elections are but a single aspect of "democracy". Maybe you might want to do a Google on the "pillars of democracy". Barring that a former Thai statesmean and PM gave a nice talk on it once:

I don't think anyone is suggesting that would or could happen, only that the entire election process has yet to play out.

As one of the members suggested, let's put this in historical perspective.

In 1793 Robespierre said something like

"... If the redPheu Thai government must be more active in its march and more free in it's movements than an ordinary government, is it for that than, less fair and legitimate? No; it is supported by the most holy of all laws: the Salvation of the People."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reign_of_Terror

That was more than 200 years ago when 'rule of law' had a different meaning than today (I hope).

He stood down as leader of the party. The Dems will now select a new leader. It is widely expected they will reselect Abhisit

You thought wrong. He resigned as party leader, as he had promised prior to the election, should the democrats lose. So he's a man of his word.

Fired as PM by the people in the election maybe but not by his party. It seems they want him to continue, so some like to keep a loser. Bad idea for them imho but its their party

You can be a national disaster, and still win friends, even if you run away from the law ( if you have big money):)

I'm just watching the Thai news and I see (from what I can make out) that maybe up to a million Cambodians want to come to Thailand to work now on account of the 300 baht minimum salary promise - oh dear so that's 1 million Thai jobs down the pan then!!!!

Nice one Yingluck!!! I'm sure the people who voted you in will applaud that!! ha ha ha ha!!!

Thaksin is such a tremendous asshol_e, first he causes the trouble, and now he is trying to come across as the savior.

I wish he were in front of me right now, id slap the shit out of him.

Chaos can be a good earner. There's a reason there aren't any stable democratic states bordering China.

More voted for him than for the other parties. They have the right to do so, on the basis of one man/woman, one vote.

The latest proportional-vote result I saw, which was Wikipedia a few days ago, said that PTP got 48.91% of the (75% turnout) vote. So I'm afraid that your statement "more voted for him" is possibly incorrect ?

I think my statement is correct. No other party got more than 48.91%, did they?

The question is, when the end game comes, does Hun Sen eat Thaksin or does Thaksin eat Hun Sen? Or have both already made their deals with China?

As to the question your username asks, I think if you ever take the time to learn anything about provincial politics your answer will come easy.

My decision on resettlement will not be influenced by politics but by the attitudes of the people living there. If not for the fact that a lot of the doomsday posters on this forum do actually live upcountry, my answer would have come a lot easier.

begin removed ...

At the end of the day, as long as he can improve the welfare, particularly of the poor people, then he has done right in my book.

At the end of the day some will just turn a blind eye on k. Thaksin's corruption and other misdeeds.

That's the way the world works

'if he can improve, he has done right' probably means 'if he can't improve, he might be wrong' :ermm:

Not exactly. If he can't improve, then he is wrong and the people will vote again.

Then FWIW, I can tell you the vast majority - vast - of Thais living here are warm, caring, and generous people. Individually, they are interesting, and interested in more than just making a baht. It's really a joy to walk down the street and be stopped by strangers just wanting to chat a bit. Having learned a fair bit of the culture, I find it very easy to get along with almost anyone. I really can recommend living in Issan.

Just my opinion, of course. But I'd never move to BKK after living here.
