I bought a RVF400RR to kick around on. Not that I need anything at this time, I was hoping other NC30/NC35 people can recommend a good reputable repair shop. I moved to Pin Klao recently so somewhere near there would be great.

I've come across a couple for a friend of mine (bangkoknc30) with a NC30. I'm not sure how reputable these are, but he has had a little bit of work done there (radiator, and now clutch).

One is in Minburi - Thanon Rom Klao (main road), heading south it's on the left about half way down. It's a small shop, so easy to miss, just look at for the blue NC30 out the front. The other shop is just after Navamin 61 (I believe), on the main road filled with Nc30/35s, so park in the Caltex Gas station just before the shop. If you find anymore, post them up

I know of the one on Nawamin. In fact looked a NC30 they were selling. Lots of moto's there.

Red Baron is excellent and some mechanics there own NC30 (or 45, don't remember precisely). The good thing about them is they can provide original parts in reasonable delay and won't try to convince you that thai parts will do as good on the bike for half the price. On the other hand, it's a bit expensive comparing to "private" garage.

I also recommend Ake Garage on Lad Phrao soi 101 (almost end of the soi on the left hand side), excellent price and service BUT extremely busy. Can take 2 days or 2 weeks for a simple fixing. Can get originals parts as well. They don't speak english.

I am regular in those two, I can't talk about any other that much, but those two are very serious and passionate in their way of working.

Does Red Baron have a dyno? Bangkoknc30 needs a good mechanic to tune an engine - any suggestions?

Red barron does have a dyno but it's not set up to read power figures, more so for on the roll tuning which is what most are after anyway :)

As for the Shop on Rom Klao Road, they guy who owns it is a friend of mine (P Porn) and his shop has been working with vfr's for many years, i always took my NC30 to him and was happy with their service, cheap too :)

His shop can be found (give or take 100m or so) opposite Kasem Bundit University on Rom Klao Road, as said it's easy to pass his small shop BUT you'll be hard pushed to miss the University, so look out for that :)

I still have a padock stand after selling my VFR, if you don't have one make me and offer and it's yours, i'm not far from his shop :)

Not trying to offend anyone, but the friend of mine (bangkoknc30) who bought a NC30 from the shop in Minburi has recently discovered the engine is trashed. He's had to replace the whole thing for 30,000. Maybe this isn't totally there fault, but a bit dissapointing from a shop of NC30 mechanics.

Can you elaborate to the reason for the motor failure?

Lots of things can happen. I used to race and build motors (not Honda V4's) and I had a few go away due exclusively to sub par internal components. I am not defending the shop(Never been there do not know them) but I think we should all know the facts to be professional and fair. I mean bad business is just that...Bad business. But if they did their due diligence and something broke it should be defended to protect the business spoken about.

Of course another variable I have encountered a few times was the owner whether it be maintenance or abuse.

Either way, sorry to hear about the motor failure and subsequent cost.

He took it to the Nc30 shop in navamin and they diagnosed it as (I think??) a bent rod or something deep inside the engine. Basically they said it was a bad engine, and he should have had a mechanic look at it before purchasing it. I guess some people learn the hard way :blink:

Strange for a rod to 'just bend' they guys at the garage should have noticed something as catastrophic as that before putting it up for sale.

If the bike had a modified fueltap (vacum pipe & diaphragm removed) then the tap should be switched to it's off position after everyride, i say this as the only reason i can think of that might have caused a bent rod in such a short space of time (with no symptoms before this fault) would have been some form of hydraulic lock from a modified fuel tap or a severe flooding. Once the plugs are fouled on these bikes (one brief flooding) it can be near impossible to start them without taking the plugs out to clean them, continuous cranking would just worsen the situation.

I'm not accusing anyone of wrong doings, nor am i defending the shop (although i have used them alot), but i just want some facts to be known about the NC30 and one of it's popular modifications.

He said there are no modifications that he was told about, and they said the bike was 'stock' other than aftermarket brakes. I think it is pretty strange for it to 'bend', but it was an old engine (1989) that had probably been through some abuse. He should have had it checked out independently before buying it. However, having changed the engine, the bike is all good again.

Yeah I agree, water under the bridge and glad He is back on the road riding. This will not deter me from searching out the shop to check it out. I have to say this is new to me having someone work on my stuff. I simply have no tools or space here. Actually a bit frustrating. Even a simple fluid change presents a lot of work.
