My PC case is old, and some item on it will no longer work, so will have to buy a new case...

I have re built the case twice already, so Motherboard Asus 24 pin, DDR2 is only 1 year old, as is CPU AMD 7750 Duel-core, power supply 1 week old..

So just need a new case + new DVD writer.. Present writer is a LG RAM writer and 9 years old, no need for a Ram writer again.

What is a good DVD writer ? Asus? have a plain Asus DVD to play CD/DVD is working fine + over 8 years old

The case I am thinking of buying is 'Thermaltake' AMD Edition

I do have a old good case + near new Asus motherboard DDR 2, CPU, power supply, DVD Player a 500GB Hard drive with a genuine OS for that motherboard + CPU, just need Memory

Now comes these new fangled things

Memory now is DDR2 question will DDR 3 fit into a DDR 2 motherboard ? + any advantage ? [DDR + DDR 2 are different sizes]

USB 3 is also now the in thing, Yes have tried a 1TB USB 3 hard drive and it works fine on my USB 2 port..

The above Case has a front USB 3 port....

Now cannot work out, the Engineer at a Computer shop states that if you Motherboard has a USB 3 connection = hard drive works @ 10x faster... ? if as per the above case USB 3 port but connection to Motherboard is USB 2 then @ 5x faster, if connection is direct USB 3 to USB 2 = @ 2x faster...... Is any of this true please ?

DDR3 modules won't fit in DDR2 slots.

To transfer data at USB3 speeds, your motherboard needs to support it.

Many thanks.. So will buy a single 1 or 2 GB DDR 2 for the spair PC

Still worth to buy USB 3 as only 230 baht more ? then in a couple of years when I built a different PC or even buy a Mac will have USB 3

DDR3 and USB3 are the way of the future,

but you need to make sure your overall machine can take exploit the additional speed.
