Wine Making Information For Thai Wife

Recommended Posts

Thai wife makes a little wine every year for Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners. Last time we were in the U.S. she purchased a cleaning chemical (powdered) for cleaning wine carboy and fermenter. Is there a place in Bangkok or Chiangmai that sells wine making items or chemicals? She could order from a U.S. supplier but has to pay shipping for such a small item. It cost about $3.75 US.

If you are just interested in cleaning then mix up a solution of 1 ounce of bleach to about a gallon of water and clean the equipment. Just make sure that you rinse well before making the wine. The bleach will kill any bacteria.

cheers

Since it's a small batch of wine, why not just use boiling water. If you want to make sure, use a chlorine bleach solution for the first cleaning and then boiling water as the final cleaning element. I've used this on 20 liter carboys and never had a problem.

I'm genuinely curious: does the result of making your own wine gives decent result?

Thailand doesn't sound like the best place to try this. Weather is definitely not appropriate and I wonder about the quality of the ingredients you can find here.

My wife and I thank each of you for sharing your information. She thought without the cleaning compound there would be a problem. Great to understand there are simpler ways of solving the problem.
