ABAC Poll: Top 5 likes and dislikes in the current politics

BANGKOK, 24 July 2011 (NNT)-According to ABAC Poll, the survey found that the majority of the respondents dislike Pheu Thai for not sticking to their promises but Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra's approach to political problems favorable.

The survey ranked the top 5 unfavorable aspects by respondents regarding the current politics. The majority of sampled populations from 17 provinces across the country have shown resentment towards the new government for not implementing their policies right away after winning the election.

This is followed by 70% of the respondents who disagree with giving some of Pheu Thai members who have negative image ministerial positions. The same number of them also dislike news regarding the fierce lobbying for the ministerial post. Slightly less than that say the news over the Preah Vihear temple upset them while the others disapprove of politicians placing themselves above the law.

As for the favorable part, almost 80% of those surveyed said they like Ms. Yingluck’s response to political issues, followed by how the cabinet was being formed while no violence was happening in the country. At no.3. respondents like how Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva approaches political issues, followed by foreign support for Ms. Yingluck. At the bottom of the top 5 is how the Democrat Party is adapting to the post election era.

If that's true - and I've really got to wonder about it - then those people sampled don't seem to grasp that the new government can't implement its policies until they actually take office and pass the laws in parliament.

Hard to believe that. So either the article is wrong, the ABAC poll asked a skewed question, or something huge got lost in translation. Either way, it's discouraging.

The problem is probably the poll.

I have noticed that it is always in 17 provinces and they never say which ones. My money says the same ones in all there polls. Also most of them tell how many people were poled always the same I see they did not this time.

Time for a real pole to be taken by qualified pollsters.

Well may be not some of the powers that are and to be would not care for the answers.

The government in waiting can't put ANY thing into practice yet because the Parliament isn't even convened yet to vote for a government leading PM. They are not in power yet, till the EC clears 475 MPs to serve, and then not till the Parliament has selected a House Speaker, and then having voted for PM.

Seems most of the sampled people don't even know how their government works... so much for actual Civics Classes.

So sad to see this, regardless of the sampling accuracy issues and narrowness of the poll.

The government in waiting can't put ANY thing into practice yet because the Parliament isn't even convened yet to vote for a government leading PM. They are not in power yet, till the EC clears 475 MPs to serve, and then not till the Parliament has selected a House Speaker, and then having voted for PM.

Seems most of the sampled people don't even know how their government works... so much for actual Civics Classes.

So sad to see this, regardless of the sampling accuracy issues and narrowness of the poll.

I repeat what is needed is a qualified pollster.

I have noticed that it is always in 17 provinces and they never say which ones. My money says the same ones in all there polls. Also most of them tell how many people were poled always the same I see they did not this time.

It is easy,ABAC has students enrolled from 17 provinces which call their mum whenever a poll appears.

74% fear broken promises

Politicians' not delivering campaign promises immediately tops the list of five "public dislikes" in the wake of the Yingluck government assuming office, according to the results of an Abac poll released yesterday.

Of the total, 74 per cent said they most disliked the possibility a Pheu Thai government would not honour its campaign promises immediately but attach conditions; 73 per cent said they disliked the fact the Yingluck Cabinet may include ministers with a tainted image, 72 per cent said they disliked reports of politicians wrangling for Cabinet posts, 68 per cent said they disliked foreign policies that would cause Thailand to lose territory, and 63 per cent said they disliked reports of politicians and supporters resorting to mob rule and not following the law.

Among the five "public likes" in light of the formation of a new Cabinet, 77 per cent said they like the way PM-to-be Yingluck Shinawatra handles political problems, 75 per cent said they like the fact formation of the Cabinet is being handled without any turmoil.

Asked what kind of Cabinet members, advisers and politicians' aides they most abhorred, 87 per cent said they did not want the new Cabinet to include corrupt people or those who let vested interests and nepotism take precedence over public interest, 83 per cent did not want politicians who duped voters by not honouring their poll vows.

The poll was conducted on 2,178 respondents from July 18-23 in 17 provinces.

Meanwhile, Dusit Poll released results of a poll showing 31 per cent of respondents said they would see politics in a positive light if the new government delivered its campaign promises or had concrete achievements; 25 per cent wanted to see the new government improve public well-being, and 24 per cent wanted the new government to bring about public unity.

Asked what make them think of politics in a negative light, 52 per cent said corruption and abuse of power by politicians, 30 per cent disliked continued street protests and 14 per cent disliked the rising cost of living.

Dusit poll conducted the survey on 2,286 respondents across the country from July 18-23.

What some posters above miss is that PTP don't need to be in place in the government to already be messing up on their promises, as we have seen: They have already attached conditions and altered the meaning of the promises.
