Hi

I live in Bangkok - but I am looking to go somewhere for xmas and guess I should start booking :-)

I don;t mind where, was thinking Pukkhet. Money not too much of an issue ($250 a night). We are a young couple (30 years old) and looking for a resort, beach and somewhere that will do xmas lunch, plenty of fun at New Years eve. Any recommends ?

Not sure how busy it will be after what happened last year, my view is it will be fine and happy to support the effort in rebuilding.

Have any of you spent xmas in Thailand ? option B was to stay in Bangkok - but thought that not much fun :-) Or maybe spend New Year in Bangkok and go a week somewhere in Thailand.

If I wanted to drive from Bangkok > Phukket / Ko Somui is this possible? Or even hire a boat ? Means could get to see some of Thailand rather than flying at 30,000ft

Thanks

Paul

Well, driving in Thailand is not for amateurs so I wouldn't really recommend that. Koh Samui and Phuket both have the kind of place you seek. Hopefully, both will be busy so book now! The train is nice, but takes all night and you don't see much anyway.

Can't recommend anything specific for you, I am afraid, but I can only suggest checking out some resorts online and seeing what kind of packages they offer for the holidays. Have fun!

Any 4 or 5 star hotel should do a fantastic Christmas lunch at these destinations. They don't tend to advertise too far in advance though and usually advertise the type of meal and the price in English language papers. I can't speak for anywhere but Bangkok, but I've had Christmas lunches at the Tai-Pan on Sukhumvit Soi 23, Novotel on Sukhumvit (before it disappeared...), Sheraton Grande on Sukhumvit and Novotel Bangna. And every time I came away stuffed.

Depends if you want a banging xmas or a romantic lunch!

Just google it and you will find many choice destinations and if your in Bangkok just look around or ask, its all there for you to find! Enjoy

Driving in Thailand is not for amateurs but it is great fun. If you are a confident driver then it can be part of the holiday. You can break the journey up with stops at Hua Hin or the many beaches and national parks on the route.

Sounds like we are kinda looking for the same sorta thing.

A friend and I will be arriving in Thailand on Dec 24th and staying till Jan 17th. We are 2 crazy party chicks looking for a kick ass place to spend new years! We love the dance culture, so we're looking for a party with wicked djs. We'll be hitting the FullMoon party in Jan, but would love to have some suggestions for new years. I also wouldn't mind meeting up with some peeps to explore the land together.

cheers,

melissa!

Melissa, Ko Samui and Ko Pha Ngan sound like your kind of places for New years but book in advance.

I hope you have a hotel booked in advance for your first few nights in Bangkok as well. I wouldn't like to arrive on Xmas eve with nowhere booked. You should still have plenty of time but don't leave it too late.

Woodyuk,

Bangkok can be a fun place to be at Christmas but if you are there all the time getting away can be a relief.

As stated most big resorts will have a traditional Christmas dinner.

I fancied Ko Ngai resort in Trang and may have Christmas there next year because I'm tied up this year. Its a nice easy overnight train ride down from Bangkok so you'll get to see a little of the country without the hassle of driving.
