I arrived at my local last night to be greated by 3 of my friend's rushing out to tell me one of our chum's had just been in an accident and was trapped in his 4 door pick up. We arrived at the scene to find 3 Sawangboriboon car's Lot's of flashing Red & Green light's there, and were directing the traffic. They also had a hole "1mt" stretcher + head gard's just in case. The car was on it's passenger side down a 4mt embankment and the front roof pillor's had struck a tree all a bit of a mess. The conversation went something like this. Where's the man that was in the car, Oh he still in there, why's that, the door's wont open, well why didnt you break one of the window's, Oh can't do that as we have to get permission from the Police or the insurance comp: How long before the Police arrive, not know no one phone them yet. With that we took control got a wheel spanner from my car and smashed the rear window within 10 mins: of us arriving he was out, as luck would have it with no ill affects.

The insurance was called and after a few snap's the car was taken off to the lacal garage. This all took a little over 3 hour's what time did the Police arrive, well they didn't and the Police station is only 5km away. Look's like if we hadn't turned up he would still be in there.

I know thing's are a bit crappy over here but if you have an accident you have got more chance of winning the Lotto than getting any proper help.

I'm off now to get several sign's to stick on my window's reading in Thai, in case of emergency BREAK GLASS.

I realise some readers and members do not like Highwaypolice Volunteers. I am one, and arriving an accident scene like this, I would not hesitate a second breaking glass to get the bloke out.

Correction.......... IN CASE OF ACCIDENT YOU HAVE THE DRIVERS PERMISSION TO BREAK GLASS.........:wai:

Dont be silly that's too many word's, beside's last night there was no one in the driver's seat he was in the passenger one. Looking at all the div's peering in through the window's, not knowing what to do..... Oh there's no driver so cant break the glass maybe he will come back later then we will ask him. Any one for some food. It would be funny if it wasn't for the seriousness of it.

But.................................... Someone has to call you first........ :whistling: Unless you by chance happen across like fredob did... I would also think that if in a case like this the owner/driver says smash the f'ing window that would be enough authority to do so, but TiT...

Edit: I see now their perception that the driver wasn't in the car or no one conscious not sure, it's not clear on that, but even a conscious trapped passenger? The mind boggles and this is one of my biggest concerns here and not just for a traffic accident either :( ...

Perhaps onlookers fear getting the bill for breaking the glass. :)

Wouldn't surprise me at all silly as that sounds.....Do you think though that's ever happened? Would someone honestly blame you and expect compensation for breaking their window and possibly saving your life?? I hope not :( .... Though if they did I'd give them a few baht for it and let them know what a knob they are and still wouldn't let that compromise my intention to potentially save a life.. But that's just me and I come from a different world altogether, be nice with that one :) ..

Thats the point of recruiting hundreds of big bike riders every year as Highwaypolice Volunteers. We enjoy to be on the roads, we are on the roads :)

Think all Thais fear getting a bill or being involved with the BiB if they intervene with anything. Look at what happens if you have an accident here, they all come out the woodwork to try and claim some money EVEN after the insurance has sorted it. Just my thoughts.

Just had a word with the G/L and she said they wont do any damage to the car in case they have to pay. That's why they wait for the police to say it's ok. That maybe ok in the short term, provided that the peep's inside didnt have a major problem. By the time they get them out it's to late. As T/A said they'll come out of the wood work just to get a few bob. In the mean time people die unnecesserly. TIT I suppose.

Well done getting him out fredob43

Fire or explotion would be my first consern. Cooking gas bottles in the bed or trunk and fuel from vehicle. Get em out while they are alive, its gonna be a long time before someone brings sissors to open car, so glass is the way to go

Back home all minibusses must be equiped with a small hammer and seat belt cutter, to break glass from inside for emergency evacuation. I will install one at drivers seat in my cars

Was just thinking the same thing going out tomorrow to get a ballpane hammer to keep in the car just in case. Hadn't thought of the seat belt cutter. Thank's for the tip.

So how did the accident actually happen?

Some mitigating factors, or just another unstable VIGO with 16" rims? hehehe :P

More like Chang stabilizers.

Just found my 4x4 Vigo handbook in English. Big section on it's a truck, NOT a car and should be treated as such, don't go round bends fast etc cos of it's height and centre of gravity. ;) They are right in printing it cos a 4x4 is created to do a particular job.

just establish a rearwheeldrift entering the bend, and it handles anything :D

see plenty of single accidents on TH Highways, no wonder when they drive 1000km a day and half the time are on the phone

Seem's he was driving along the no: one road to the north and a Mini bus cut him up, to avoid a collision he went left only to find no road, just a big hole. As stated have the snap's if you saw them you wouldn't believe anyone would get out without a scratch, pretty frightening.

Unfortunate circumstances - had a similar incident when I was younger, and have since been training myself and the family that it's always best to hit another car than it is to go off-road in an attempt to avoid one. Also why I generally buy cars that put the weight & safety ratios on my side too - may as well stack the deck in your favor - it's always better to lose a car than a friend or loved one..

Yes agree as luck would have it he was on his own as I think there might have been a different outcome. But next one up from a Mini bus is a Lorry. Now there's a thought.Told a lie TV just let me edit a post first time in week's.

As I posted in another thread on an accident in Chang Mai that ended up in a canal upside down. I always carry a special spring loaded center punch I brought especially from the states haven't seen one here yet, just press it against the glass & poof! No more glass when it pops! I also have a knife right in my glove box too and both are located right under the drivers side, a neat little feature of my SEAT..

Maybe now all of you that drive so fast as too risk the lives of other road users will think before you do this again, I cannot say who these people are because of dark tinted windows, what I can say is that these people are irresponsible morons, just like the BMW driver that passes Wat Chalong in the mornings, going far too fast with lights flashing, also the many white people carriers and other vehicles that have no care about anyone else, I have seen and been involved in many rescues involving car accidents and trust me when I say you do not want to be in a serious accident here, so for all you people that drive too fast, SLOW DOWN!!!

Good point. But you should write it in Thai as most of those morons don't read English.
