Theft In The House...

Recommended Posts

A few months ago thiefs entered in the neighborgh house from our balcony... may be we do not give to this the right attention, being sure they prefer to go there because we was protected enough...

Big mistake!!

Tonigh at 4am (Italian time) we was awaked from the telephone call form Hua Hin... my mother in law told us the thiefs entered in our house :annoyed: .

Early morning, two days before coming there... make us little disappointed as you can imagine...

They entered from back.

They broke the kitchen window and they force the iron who was inside the window (is that kind of lamella window you can open from inside turning the cranck...).

From there they went upstair looking for something precious (for them)...

From what we understand they stolen just a sword (looks antique but was a simple furniture objects)... probably they was looking for gold or money, that we never leave home.

We have an alarm system, but it wasn't working (i'll investigate on this once arrived, also if i already get an opinion...) :realangry:

All the doors are looked by security heavy gates...

All the window downstair also, except that one ( i thought it was enough... my fault also).

So... the question is...

What do you provide for your home safety? Expecially for those who don't live there all the year?

I would like to improve everything, also knowing that if they want to enter they will (they do in the banks, an house cannot be safer...).

Probably the better idea is to complicate them the thing so much they go somewhere else (onestly if you asked me this yesterday i answered we done...)

Please let me know how do you do,

Ciocco

I think the best protection is to always have someone living in the house. Contact alarms on all entry points, large dogs and quality locks help too.

For sure you are right.

My problem is i have no one can stay there continuely (or by night)... just the gardener who go 3/4 time per weeks...

I need to improve passive system... dogs could be good but not stayng there so long i don't like the idea to leave them alone for long time, also providing for someone to feed them...

Lock everything first. Put bars on every opening since your gone for long time and don't have a guard in your complex.

My Thai wife insists that everything get locked and all windows closed, door in gate locked and alarm set. We live in a guarded estate and give key to neighbor and alarm and gate key to guard so they can service our yard and pool. Wife has taught me that you cannot be too careful as they will steal anything whether it is of value or not.

Put bars on every opening since your gone for long time and don't have a guard in your complex.

These bars are often more decoration than a really protection (bad quality, week connection to the walls). Additionally you block your escape ways in case of a fire.

A good but expensive option are the security screens from Majestec

Another problem is that thefts sometimes are made through roof entries. Security bar don't help in those circumstances.

Arrived here on friday eve, the house was already setted and cleaned again by the relatives. so that i skipped the "bad feeling" to find the house raped...

As we thought they didn't stole nothing, just an old sword... probably if we do not see what happens they come back to finish the job the night later...

Police was already investigating and thanks to a friend there they looks fairly efficient... they suspect about the workers who are building a house next to us... already comes back two time (in civil wearing) to investigate them... we will see...

Today we went to the Police Station to put the report (for the insurance) and to take back a scuba torch and knife they take thinking was leaved by thiefs.

We have to change a window and improve gates where we don't have, to build a iron on the wall and also i need to improve the alarm system (also if my mother in law do not switch on properly it dont work as it happened... :realangry:)

We dont live in a project, is a town house in a quiet soi... but no one is in a safe place if they want to enter... i know...

The bad feeling is to think what can happen if they try to enter when am here... but better do not think at this or i will need to buy a gun  (not s difficult with chanote ot tabien baan)... because if they come when am abroad... is a problem... but if they come when am inside... is a bigger problem (also because probably are different kind oh thiefs...).

And my life, but mostly my beloved life is more important...

News...

Police called us this morning to say they already arrested the thief.

Actually he is in the Local Police Station for to be "asked" to tell who was with him (they are sure he wasn't alone).

They say us is a local who live not so far from us, they suspect he is involved in about 100 cases of house robbery.

My stolen sword was in his house, we have to go for to confirm is our things.

From what i understand he is not having a really good moment in the station at this moment

but am not disappointed by this, as no worried for him, sorry about this... :whistling:

So... Police do not work so bad sometime...

That's good news Ciocco

We were burgled April last year.

Police did get the 'alleged burglar' - lived diagonally across the road from us, maybe 50m and a good view of when we were home/away. He was caught inside a neighbours house a few weeks later, but our items - all electronics, laptop etc were long gone.

He was charged with other offences but not ours.

We had a visit after the burglary from a cop who showed us and the property owners (ours was one of six 'secure' villas in a compound) how easy it was to force the aluminium-framed windows right out of the frame to gain access, using a small screwdriver. Secure metal frames on the outside would have stopped that. Other option would have been to fit individual locks on the inside of each window. We were already moving to another location, don't know if the owner ever took any steps to improve security.

Yes it is a good news to ear here not having(me included) that so big consideration about police enforcement.

Upgrade:

The thief not really live so close to us, he live in Pranburi.

This make us also more happy... no one likes to suspect about the neighborgh i guess.

They arrested yesterday morning once he was going back home, still little drunk, after a new robbery.

Police find in the house a lot of goods coming from several robberies.

They suspect he is part of a big gang involved in more than 100 theft around Hua Hin area.

Also if they do not talk about this we understand they was already investigating on this guy (24 years old) and probably our report with a lot of details about the old sword he stole us was the right step to take him.

Yesterday a policeman come to our house to show us the sword and for to be sure it was that one.

They told us they find really a mountain of stolen things.

This people used to come in Hua Hin every day (and night) as a "normal" job...

They foun more than 10000 baht in coins (they stole also coins), 24 laptops, tv, stereos, hundred of pens (have to be also sick in the brain for to stole pens...), everything a house is fitted... they needed a truck for to bring everything to the station...

They also found a gun, of course he said was not of him but of a friend (ah ah ah)...:D

They are investigating about the gun, could be involved in some more crimes.

I suspect he will live in a cage for a while...

To know he have a gun, he also go robbering by day make the deep suspect he can be involved in some bigger crimes... but of course they don't say nothing about this because they are still working on the case.

That's all at the moment. And is not too bad.

Update (last one).

This afternoon police called us to go in the station to place the report (first one report was not enough, boh...).

They also tell us that after this they need to come here to take some picture with the thief and his wife (she was with him).

Of course we asked to skip this but wasn't possible, this is the rule they told.

But they accepted do not enter inside the house in respect of the baby.

They arrived in two cars, with a senior official.

The thief is 24 but looks 40... the wife just 18... so sad about this :(

They bring him in front of the house with iron around the hands, taking picture in front of the gate (they told they entered from the front, crossing the gate) and on the back.

Was like an old movie where the hunter used to take picture with the killed lion... make me really sad for them.

Onestly am not happy knowing they will stay in the jail, but also i cannot hidden myself that we was lucky because we wasn't here.

Easy to imagine that with a couple of young robbers like them, armored, often drunk... first or late something more tragic would be happened... and better to know them jailed than to read on the newspaper someone else killed during a robbery.

This is the law, you can follow or not.

Sadly, but without it we will live in a jungle.

Local Tv (PPNews) have just showed the press conference the police called to show thiefs and stolen things.

The things was to much so that the press conference was done in the pedestrian walking street in front of Hua Hin police station.

As first they catch a third thief, another one guy looking 25/30 y.o. so it was a gang as they told.

The first guys was already jailed in the past because they found explosives (they talk about bombs) in his home in another province.

This looks a little not nice... if a 24 guy already went jail for to have bombs but he is already on the street againg to make robberies... how many time they give him to stay jailed? Just a few?

Or... he started very young and stayed years? Boh...

Hope this time they will loose the key.
