I know this question has been asked in the past, and yes I did a search on the topic. However all of the search results were pretty dated so thought there might be some new info out there.

Yes I know that it is illegal for a farang to make beer in Thailand, so this question is for my wife.

Is there anywhere in Thailand to buy the major components to make your own beer (malt, yeast, hops, brewing containers)?

Thanks for any help

I think the same rules apply to Thais. :)

They do indeed. I have heard of some people importing "components" from either Singapore Or Coopers in Adelaide ,Australia

Have a friend brewing his own beer here and had to import most of the equipment and ingredients some from Australia and Singapore . It's actually better than most bottled beer you can buy here.

Illegal thread....illegal proposition....I hope you are dealt with to the fullest letter of the law and made to drink it all to get rid of the evidence and this thread should be deleted cos it is a gross.....I mean gross violation of the laws.

Thanks for the replies.

But I guess it makes sense, that with my 2 box a month production might make me a threat, I mean my wife a threat to take over Singa, thus making us a major threat to the economy

I'm sure that if all the discussion here were clearly theoretical, there would of course be no violations of the law involved.

For information related to U.S. law (where beer and wine production of a reasonable quantity is legal for its citizens and various information and service providers exist), google is your friend.

Used to make our own home made brew when working in Saudi...easy..plastic bucket, malt extract, sugar and yeast and a bit of yo ho mo hamid......

The local oil outfit AR**co actually used to at one time provide a blueprint on how to construct a "still"...steel drum and a bit of CU pipe for the distil runs (max 3).again mostly sugar..until someone bubbled... but of course I would never condone

Some guy down Cha-am way makes his Cider and sells it in Thailand,is there a difference between brewing beer and cider?

Website for brewing beer in Thailand

Beer making forum in Thailand

Section 5 of the Liquors Act (1950) states that it is illegal for anyone to brew their own alcohol, or even to have the equipment to do so.

'The maximum penalty for contravention of this section of the Act is six months in jail, or a fine of 5,000 baht, or both.

If the offender sells the liquor, the maximum penalty rises to a year in jail or a 10,000 baht fine, or both.

Those are the maximum penalties and can be imposed for making and/or selling distilled alcohol (spirits).

The maximum penalties for brewing or fermenting alcohol wine or beer, for example are lower: 200 baht for making it and 5,000 baht for selling it.'

It is not illegal if your wife registers with the authorities to brew and obtains a license for the alcohol she is making. There are small mom and pop type distillers that are paying the tax - they have the tax stamp and everything. I am not sure of the regulations involved but if your wife obtains the correct licenses, it is not illegal.

Home brewing without a license is illegal according to Section 5 of the Liquor Act
