Why The Lack Of Postcards In Bangkok?

Featured Replies

I have only ever found one small pharmacist near nana that sells postcards. that is one shop in the whole of bangkok. I am sure there are many outlets selling postcards, but i cannot find them.

as a supposidly international hub for tourists, and voted the world's best city 2010 i find this frustrating.

Never had any problems finding a postcard, but you must look in the tourist areas, where they sell souvenirs.

Maybe most of the tourists don't sober up long enough to write a post card. Seriously though like Mario said you are going to have to look in those areas/stores that cater a lot to tourists. In the stores where Thai's are the great bulk of the customers (i.e., 99.9% of the country ) you are going to find zero to very, very few post cards. Bookstores are a good place to look. Plus, when Thai's travel around Thailand they don't seem to be into the postcard sending type of people which affects postcard sales; instead, they take a lot of pictures to show family and friends later on, plus just give them a cell phone call to talk about the trip. Nor are Thai's into sending holiday cards. Thai's are just not into mailing cards for trips, holidays, birthdays, etc.

The cellphone with a camera has taken over from postcards for most Thais.

Postcards are the for old generation...if you want a photo of where you are on vacation or the people you are with on that vacation, just snap a photo with your cellphone's camera.

I don't think my 17 year old grand daughter would even know what a postcard is...but she has quite a few photos of her and her friends stored on her cellphone.

i only send them to my mum. she is 81 and likes a postcard. so yes, the old generation :). but i like to receive them as well.

and yes 'Pib' i am trying to slowly teach my wife to be a bit more spontaneous about sending birthday cards.

Never looked for postcards but have had problems finding greeting cards ... then again, paper/tree related products in general are not hugely common in Thailand.

Try the small convenience shop inside the Nana Hotel, next to the travel agency. They had postcards and stamps, at least back in the day.

Every single book shop on Sukhumvit carries postcards. At least everyone I've been in. Never had a problem finding postcards.

What’s a postcard?

It's that really great picture you just missed out in taking because your camera battery died.

Post Office?

Both the ones we use (long way from Bangkok though) in Chanthaburi have a range of Thai tourist postcards @ 5 baht each, tow cafes we go to have them for sale also, @ 20 baht

I thought that the postcards a la paris naughty pictures had been displaced by the internet...and who needs those ones of a beer bottle sitting on a fat belly on a beach with a tower in the background now they have photoshop.

THe same applies to the nice pictures of landmarks which can be downloaded from the internet now and sent by email to everyone or placed in the replacement for the famous slide evening....blogs.

Postcards went of the hotlist when people figured out that they didn't have to put a stamp on their email.
