Hi,

I have read through all the posts regarding True and them throttling torrents, but

with my situation all I am getting is 20kb up and not much more than that all day long.

My Bitcomet has a yellow light that says;

"Your listen port is blocked. You can still download but the speed may not be very fast.

Please check your firewall and NAT router configurations"

So my question is, is it safe to open the ports, and will this have a positive affect on my download

speeds? Or is it better to leave it aloan.

Thanks

BTW, leave the max half open settings alone. Increasing the limit of half open connections or patching TCPIP.SYS does not improve speeds.

It opens the number of connections to you and from you. Torrents depend on the users, the amount of seeders and peers, and the speed they allow you to upload. I always seed to at least 1, but my computer is on full time at the moment and most of my torrents I have finished and seeding at ratios of 20+.

have you checked the speeds set in Bitcomet as well (your upload and download speeds)?

Opening ports is a must. You can either do this manually or use UPnP.

Hi and thanks for all the replies

So do I go into firewall, then exceptions, then click on Bitcomet,

then add port? Enter Bitcomet as name, enter port numbers?

Which protocol? TCP or UDP.

Thanks again.

Many folks are misled to believe that patching TCPIP.SYS or increasing the limit of half open connections to 50 or 100 will somehow miraculously increase speed, which isn't true at all.

No.

You need to forward ports on your modem/router. Alternatively, you can do it the easy way by enabling Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) in Bitcomet. Note: UPnP must also be enabled in your router.
