News_Editor
Two churches burnt on Indonesia's Sumatra 2011-08-03 22:33:33 GMT+7 (ICT) RIAU, INDONESIA (BNO NEWS) -- Two churches were burnt on Indonesia's island of Sumatra on Tuesday evening, the latest attacks against religious minorities in the country, local media reported on Wednesday. According to the Jakarta Globe, the churches were housed in two buildings in Pasarbaru and Logas in the district of Pangean, which is located in Riau's Kuansing regency. Riau is a province located in the central region of Sumatra and near Malaysia. Local police reportedly tried to downplay the fires at the churches, saying they were not actual churches but rather small homes "only made of board." And while local authorities are currently investigating the case, media reports quoted Pangean Police Chief Adjutant Commander Nazarudin as saying that the homes were easily burnt because they were made of flammable pieces of board. There were no reports of casualties. -- © BNO News All rights reserved 2011-08-
