Today, here in the U.S., women held a SlutWalk to protest the verbal, sexual abuse they have endured on the streets. Believe me, I couldn't make this up (see attached photos), It all started when a policeman, somewhere here, remarked that if women wouldn't dress like sluts, they wouldn't be verbally or physically abused when they go out. Show respect, get respect. I'm sure that, at this point, he deeply regrets having made that remark. It touched off a few of these demonstrations across the country.

However, it made me think of the many times I have been verbally assaulted on the streets in Bangkok. If I choose to go out wearing camouflage or multi-pocketed shorts with a T-shirt, and knee-high, white socks with my open-toed sandals, it's nobody's business but my own. Why must I have to hear "Hey, sexy-man," or "Hey handsome man. Where you going?" every time I go to take a walk (minding my own business) in Sukhumvit? Enough!

Forget about intransigent global poverty. Forget about climate-change, global warming, whatever. Forget about our failing, bankrupt economies. Forget about the U.S. Congress going on vacation for a month, leaving us wondering <deleted>. Let's keep our focus on what's really important. Ourselves!

However, I'm basically apolitical, and could really care less. Maybe there's someone with more enegy and verve who can pick up the gauntlet, and put an end to the suffering we men must endure.

I have to say, that copper has a point, not about the women dressing slutty, but you! Ithink you are making a rod for your own back.

You have a choice; either don't go out in a S&S combo, I guarantee the abuse (good and bad) will slow down, or stop bitching and get in there and shear the love.

On 'sluts' I remember reading an article (In Defense Of Sluts) in sfgate on the topic, and I quote:

"Slut." Still potent. Still a deadly stinger of a word. Still being bandied about like some sort of ultimate conviction, a nasty hammer blow, a definitive curse. Like a woman sharing her sex with unbridled abandon is unethical and wrong and dirty and, well, slutty, whereas if a man does the same he's considered, well, Colin Farrell. Is this still true? Is this still where we are?

Just leave us the frick alone, let us play with our energies and strengths how we see fit, let us be just like men, not judged and not put upon, and let us be free to define ourselves how we want to, for good or ill, as guys seem to get to do, as the world has refused to allow us to do for, you know, millennia.

Allow me to briefly inform you of the pitiable plight of many sexy men across Thailand. Were you aware that one in five sexy men is destitute to the point where he can't give you the kind of money your slutty ass thinks it requires Sadly, it very much takes the sport out of guessing who those other four sexy men are (aside from their S&S outfits), hiding behind their baseball caps and sunglasses.

I can see your mouth is already quite agape with disbelief at such a grievous travesty, but I fear there is even more. Each year, dozens of nearsighted sexy men must squint painfully at your needing face because they just cannot afford new perscription sunglasses with UV protection. What an affront to your basic dignity!

Now, now,it's not as hopeless as it all seems. With no more than a mere monthly pittance which is dwindling on a daily basis, you yourself can help keep a sexy man satisfied by not being such a brainless, greedy slut. And all without forcing him to sell off whatever he has of value.

So please, do not lose hope. Just admit that you do, in fact, understand the worsening economic situation, and lower the bar just a bit or you will find your lazy, useless ass working at 7-11.t
