How can my Thai girlfriend obtain an "original copy" of her birth certificate ? Her mother lost her original. Anyidea what sort of ID might be needed? She has a passport, DRLIC and present on Tabien Bahn.

The rule is that she needs a police report but it is possible that amphur will do it also without one

She needs to go to the same Amphur where she was born with her ID card (probably not tabien baan but bring it anywhere to be on the safe side) and show police report and request a new birth certificate. It is issued to her totally free of charge

Any amphur could do it of course but the rule is that it should be the one where the original is kept (where she was born)

This is assuming that she is over 20 years old and doesn't need guardian's permission. If she's below 20, then she can't do it, the guardian must do it

Perhaps she can try it w/ a passport initially or we can wait until she needs a police report for the visa and kill two birds with one stone.

It is a law that all Thai citizens above the age of 7 must have an ID card

She must carry either police report that ID card is lost or the actual ID card at all times actually

No work arounds recommended, get a new ID card done, dirt cheap and quick

OP doesn't say she doesn't have her ID card, just not her original birth certificate. We didn't need a police report to get DH birth certificate when we applied for his initial visa but that was years ago, so policy may have changed.
