Famous Tourist Bridge in Chonburi Collapses

A bridge connecting to a famous tourist island in the eastern province of Chonburi collapsed due to erosion at the foundation.

The Ko Loi Siracha Bridge in Chonburi Province has collapsed.

Relevant authorities said they were going to inspect the bridge and display a warning sign, but the bridge sudddenly collapsed before they could do so.

They believe the bridge's foundation gave out after years of erosion.

Siracha Deputy Governor Tianchai Korakotmat promised to begin repairing the bridge as soon as possible, as the site is a major tourist attraction in the province.

Ko Loi is an island where the Guan Yin statue is located.

In addition, the island has a turtle conservation center and a ferry terminal to Si Chang Island.

:cheesy: Yes. We believe you.

I hope nothing else happened...the bridge can be full of people walking and driving to the island. Also cars are parked on the bridge sometimes.

Mostly at weekends though Raro thankfully or it could have been disastrous.

I saw this on TV last night. They are still allowing vehicles to drive over the collapsed section! Crazy.

Well, if it's already collapsed then it can't collapse any more, can it.

Hmm, I think I've been here too long. :ermm:

Surprising the routine maintenance didn't pick up on the flaws.

It didn't completely fall apart. A big section cracked in two and fell down about a meter, but due to rebar, held together...in a V sorta way. Trucks with high clearances were able to make it across...something I would NEVER do in my truck!!!! Crazy...
