August 11, 201114 yr I have a notebook and a netbook, and I want to use both with my iPhone 3GS, which has been JB'd. I've installed iTunes on both machines and notice that they each refuse to update the content on my phone if the other was the last to do it. I always select "manually manage my music and videos" in iTunes, but I notice I can't update my music on one machine without wiping all songs and podcasts on there from the previous one. Is there a way around this? PS I've tried iFunbox, which is good for getting pics/vids off the iPhone 3gs, but I can't see how to actually manage music files with it.
August 11, 201114 yr Once upon a time, when you selected to "manually manage my music" on the iPod, you could then drop music from another PC onto your iPod in iTunes. Go to the music library, and drag and drop stuff onto the phone - maybe it works?! Getting it off the phone (copy from phone -> computer) doesn't work in iTunes. But PC -> phone should be OK.
August 11, 201114 yr I'm no expert, but what about binning iTunes and using 3rd party app? Have just bought my first iPhone and was wondering about this sort of issue.
August 11, 201114 yr Author iFunbox is a 3rd party app that looks like it may work, but I haven't figured out how to move music with it yet. You can re-sync the iPhone to the 2nd pc, but that wipes all existing music and podcasts as I mentioned. It's not the end of the world. When I'm at home I'll use the main PC only to copy and delete music on it - when I'm away I'll re sync it to the the netbook and just use that until I get back. An irritating and seemingly unnecessary restriction imposed by Apple, but I suppose I should be used to that by now.

Here's how: 1 - On PC 1, sync your phone and set it up. Set the music settings to "manually manage music". This is important. 2 - On PC 2, connect the iPhone 3 - In the dialog that asks you to sync/wipe your phone, choose NO. You don't want to sync on PC 2. 4 - The iPhone will now show up in iTunes on PC 2, and you can drop music on it.
September 2, 201114 yr Author When I manually manage music on itunes on one laptop, it resets everything/deletes all existing music and podcast files. If I go back to the first laptop, the same thing happens. I don't want cloud computing - I just want a simple system that doesn't insist on deleting all settings and files when I plug into another laptop. That really shouldn't be outside Apple's scope.
