Need bit of advice. Today my laptop began to "install" twelve, (12) "updates". All was going fine until it got to the third update when the laptop hung. All I have is the dreaded blue screen which says. "Please do not power off or unplug your machine." Installing update 3 of 12.. This has been going on for hours. I finally tried to get into safe mode using the F8 key but when the laptop starts to reboot all it says is, "resuming windows", and goes back to the dreaded message. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can get out of this mess?

Well, getting into the safe mode is a major problem with Win 7. Telling one to keep hitting the F8 key simply does not work.

I tried using the Win 7 disk to boot the laptop up but that also did not work.

I called Asus and the person I talked to said, "just keep the laptop powered up over night and in time it will find itself". Yea right Windows finding itself.

Out of options I did what the Asus rep said and low and behold when I got up thps morning sure enough the laptop had "done" it's magic and works just fine.

Even more importantly the Asus rep called to see if leaving it on worked. He said that sometimes during these updated their may be a bad file downloaded and it takes time for the system to either reject the update and or go out and ask for it again. Very impressed with the local Asus support team.

99 times out of 100, if you wait, Win7 will update properly. Sometimes it's a problem with a bad file and the reject/redownload cycle. Other times it's just a fussy Internet connection.

Best advice when dealing with Windows & Office updates: start them just before you're ready to go to bed.
