The only way to know how a certain place is, is to go there and spend as much time as you can afford. Taking other's advice isn't a help, as they might have different views on what makes a place good or bad, tastes in food, scenery, nightlife, climate etc. Reviews are helpful if you see the majority saying the same things, but they still aren't you. If 30 people say a restaurant is dirty, with lousy food and service, and 3 say it's fine, you can pretty much be assured it isn't a good place to go, but if the positives far outweigh the negatives, and that place has food you like, it's worth a try. The same with visiting a country, although it's a lot more expensive so you might want to look at what's available that you might like, then look at reviews to see what others have said, then make a decision, taking a chance if it fits you.
