KARACHI, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- At least four people, including a former Member of Parliament, were killed in ongoing violence in the Pakistani city of Karachi on Wednesday, the Express Tribune reported.

The newspaper reported that unidentified men reportedly opened fire at a hotel in the Kharadar area of Karachi on Wednesday, killing four people and injuring six others. Among those killed was Waja Ahmad Karim Daad Baloch, a former member of the National Assembly (MNA), who was elected for the Lyari area and a senior leader of the ruling political party, the Pakistan People's Party (PPP).

The bodies of the deceased along with the injured were taken to the city's Civil Hospital while the attackers managed to flee the scene. Interior Minister Rehman Malik has directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to visit the crime scene and investigate the murder.

Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday strongly condemned the killing of former parliamentarian Waja Karim Daad. In a condolence message, Zardari expressed his deepest sympathies on the death of Daad and lauded his contribution as an MP.

Earlier, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) also issued a statement in which its leader Altaf Hussain condemned the killing of Daad. The killings occurred as politically motivated violence continues in Karachi despite efforts to reconcile warring political factions.
