Passport 6 Month Requirement

Featured Replies

Was planning a trip to Thailand soon, will probably stay 3-4 months on a double entry tourist visa. My passport expires June 1/2012, so obviously no problem arriving in BKK. But should I do a land border run (at Mae Sai, most probably), do I need 6 months remaining on my passport for that too(I would have a return ticket)? Don't want to risk anything when it comes to immigration, but I also don't want to renew early if I don't need to. Thanks in advance to for answers, great forum here.

If your English when renewing a passport they will add in what you have left on your old passport up to 11months.

Just to clarify, the maximum length of time they will add onto a UK Passport is 9 months.

It seems that Thailand recently abandoned the 6 month validity rule, but it could depend on your nationality.

Simply check here: http://www.delta.com/planning_reservations/plan_flight/international_travel_information/visa_passport_information/index.jsp

However, Myanmar/Burma still seems to require a passport to be valid for a minimum of six months, so doing the visa runs at Mai Sai would still require a new passport.

I stand corrected, 9 months it is and you can renew it at anytime.:)
