New Admitted Until Stamp Before O-A Visa Expires

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I checked the forums and didn't find anything that answered my question so I thought I would do some crowd sourcing.

I'm a US citizen and have a Non-Imm O-A (retirement) visa. It was issued December 29, 2010. I am planning to exit Thailand and return a couple of days prior to December 28, 2011 so that I get a new one-year Admitted Until stamp before the visa expires. What I am planning is a train trip at least to Butterworth though I may head on down to Singapore. I'll be coming back to Thailand by train through Butterworth.

The question I have is, where is the Thailand reentry point that will do the new Admitted Until stamp? I know most folks go to Georgetown (Penang) for visa runs but I already have the visa. Is the immigration point at the border (Padang Besar (Malay/Thai border))? Would seem to be the logical place but, as we know, TIT. biggrin.gifIf it is at the border, what is the drill for going through immigration since you are traveling by train?

Thanks for the help.

David

p.s. I'll be getting the multi entry stamp later after I return to Chiang Mai.

Is your visa a nonO-A multiply entry, and if so what you want at Chiang mai is a re-entry permit. Sorry cannot answer your question about entry on train but there should be one on the Thai Malay border. Sounds like a good trip.

NO!!!!

He dies NOT need a re-entry permit, that will simply protect his existing stamp.

Assuming he has a multi-entry non-o issued at a consulate he can enter at any border crossing that permits foreigners and will receive a full one year stamp provided his visa is still valid (before the use by date).

If he wishes to leave the country once his visa has expired, THEN he needs a re-entry permit from immigration, 1000 Baht for a single, 3600 Baht for a multiple, they are also available at Suvarnabhumi airport (apparently at a premium cost).

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

He seems to know what he needs and mentioned needing the re-entry permit after his return (visa expired) which is correct (except he called it a multi entry stamp). The multi re-entry would cost 3,800 baht. He did not say he had a multi entry non immigrant O-A visa so needs to confirm that (they also issue single entry where this plan would not work).

You get off train at border crossing and clear immigration of both countries on the platform and then return to the train. Remember train service can be delayed and even suspended so would be best not to leave until the last day.

Sorry for the confusion guys. My Non-Imm O-A is multi entry. The mulit-entry stamp I mentioned was for the 2nd year. I'll get it ant CM immigration when I return home. Much easier than dealing with it in BKK.

Thanks

Thanks lopburi3

I know how timely Thai trains can run. biggrin.gif That was the reason for finding out what station did the immigration check. I was planning on being there at least 2 days before the expiration time for the O-A (be there by at least 26 December at the latest since 28 December is when the visa expires). Thanks for letting me know the process.
