rubl
A few more need to be jailed, it seems: Red shirts attack 2 men in front of Parliament Yay for Red Democracy. The guards captured the two men and were seen hitting them with a roll of hard paper. Reminds of the story with the paper bullets. That's a reference to the red-shirt fun Songkhran 2009 when busses were burned, a gastanker threatened to be blown, angry citizens who didn't like the threat to their houses and lives. Army firing blanks (paper bullets) and real ammunition. In total only a few protesters, only there are still the usual rumours of hundreds of missing red-shirts, being dumped in a truck and driven away by the army. Rumour has it recently located in Rayong. No names of course, missing Thai red-shirts seem not to have names or relatives. Anyway, back to current red-shirt dealings, peacefully and silently laying a black wreath in front of parliament is not appreciated. The people have spoken, now be silent (antithaksinistas) Edited August 25, 2011 by rubl

rubl
A few more need to be jailed, it seems: Red shirts attack 2 men in front of Parliament Yay for Red Democracy. If a black wreath is not appreciated, what would happen if I just put up some of the Pheu Thai election campaign posters in front of parliament. Those with 'free tablet for school kids', 'free Wi-Fi', '300Baht/hour', '15,000Baht/month', and some others. Would that be appreciated ?

Well I'm sure you've got a few of the Democrat ones as well promising similar things, wouldn't they just as much appreciated. Though come to think of it, obviously not. Their promised popular giveaways were not as "popular" as those "promised" by the PTP and guess who is now in power. Indeed, Yay for red democracy as opposed to the one where the government of the time (and some of its supporters both foreign and Thai) thinks it's perfectly alright to let the Army, its troops and its snipers loose with live ammunition on the very people it governs. hellodolly
I quote from the origanal article. "Lawyer Wattana Chansingha said the Pheu Thai Party MPs would today apply for bail releases of the red shirts pending appeal." Am I missing some thing here? What has Pheu Thai Party MPs got to do with this? Do you get bail after being convicted and sentenced?

I've got a few pictures of campaign posters, all flavours. The Dem's tended to be a bit boring, although there's one with '25% raise in two years', a bit what the current government seems to think of. As for popularity of campaign promises, you might have missed Pheu Thai having said something like 'yeah, but those were campaign promises only' and yes guess which party managed to deceive the electorate most? Let loose, you mean 'let slip the dogs of war' as in black shirts and other rabble throwing grenades around? Don't worry, all in the name of democracy Ms. Thida said today. Don't annoy me, or I will befriend you, red-shirt style :-) Edited August 25, 2011 by rubl

Well, I suppose we'll never know whether the more feasible promises of the Democrats would have been implemented, but it certainly seems that the promises of the PTP won't be. It certainly was acceptable for the PPP government to get the army out against protesters, but we don't know what would have happened if the army had accepted their request. Natthawut has parliamentary immunity, which seems to mean he cannot be jailed, nor the case against him proceed. He may have tried to waive immunity just like MP Jatuporn and Doctor weng c.s., but nothing seems to have come of it. Furthermore yesterday we had in reaction to 12 red-shirts jailed "I respect the ruling but in my opinion I think the punishment is too harsh," said Red Shirt chairwoman Thida Thavornsert, saying that the accused were motivated by a desire for political change." When I see and hear the clip again, I think also MP Natthawut was overcome by a desire for political change in a really democratic manner

Buchholz
. As reported in the other paper this evening, the Appeals Court today reaffirmed a lower court's guilty verdict that sentenced Red Shirt Leader and radio show host Ubonkan Amornsin to 1 year, 4 months in prison (suspended for two years). She was convicted of inciting others to commit arson on Ubon's city hall on May 19, 2010. She was originally sentenced to 2 years, 8 months in prison (which was cut in half and suspended for 2 years because of her pleading guilty) on September 13, 2011 for encouraging her listeners to set fire to the city hall. . Buchholz
. Appeals Court upholds suspended jail term for Red Shirt radio host UBON RATCHATHANI, April 26 - The Court of Appeals in this northeastern province on Thursday upheld a suspended jail term for a Red Shirt radio host of a community radio station for inciting her listeners to set alight the provincial hall during the May 16-19, 2010 disorders. Ubonkan Amornsin, 38, also known as DJ Sao Fang Khong, was sentenced by the Court of First Instance on Sept 13, 2011 to a two years and eight months jail term, but it was commuted to one year and four months and suspended for two years due to the defendant's confession. The Court of Appeals ruled that the lower court verdict was appropriate and upheld the sentence. Ms Ubonkan was charged with using the community radio she operated to persuade her listeners to join the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) Red Shirt movement to protest the then Abhisit Vejjajiva administration. Her inflammatory language, the court ruled, led literally to the torching of the Ubon Ratchathani provincial hall. According to the verdict, she must report to the Department of Probation every three months and conduct public service activities for 72 hours. Ms Ubonkan thanked the judge for granting her an opportunity to redeem herself. -- TNA 2012-04-
